Terrified of trying nizoral

I've spoken with doctors and pharmacists about Nizoral. They all say they never heard of it for hairless treatment. One pharmacist said it may even speed up hairloss. I started finasteride 6 months ago and it seems to be working so far, but I'd like to add something else though. I only seem to to have recession in the temples.

I finally bought my first bottle of nizoral, but haven't opened it yet. Stories like this: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=71903 have scared me out of using it.

I don't get it, you sometimes hear stories like this online, info from doctors seem to back up such a thing, but on the online forums most people think nizoral is important to use.

Has anyone actually regrown hair with nizoral? What are my chances of f*****g up my hair with nizoral and regretting trying that stuff for the rest of my life? Any info is appreciated!

Most people who use Nizoral also use something else, so you probably won't find many people saying that Nizoral stopped their hair loss. For what it's worth, my dermatologist first recommended Nizoral to me because he felt I was too young for Propecia at the time. There is research that indicates it is effective, but the research is not as abundant as the other two treatments in "The Big 3". Remember that all effective treatments will cause shedding at first. There is virtually zero chance that using Nizoral will accelerate your hair loss. Given the moderate results reported in research, the lack ofside effects, and ease of use, I think of Nizoral as a no-brainer.

It will do no harm adding it to your regimen and you shouldnt be terrified of it, its a shampoo!! You read enough here you will come across horror stories about everything but most of the time its hypachondriacs or the problem is caused by something else. You see it all the time in the general section when lads explain how they are receding badly and then you look at the pic and they have 0 hairloss but show a tiny bit of temple. There was a thread last week about a guy who thought nizoral was causing him erection problems. All in his head obviously!

For what its worth when my hairline/temples are itchy and Im just about to go out or something I put a tiny bit on my finger an rub the scalp with it. After I use it Im less itchy and I do think it blocks some dht that causes itch.

Nothin to be afraid of as for as nizoral goes. I have dermatitis on parts of my face and hairline. This causes my skin to become red, sort of dry, flaky and raised a bit. Nizoral is THE ONLY thing that completely clears this up (i use it on my face too for this purpose)

If i ever get male pattern baldness itch, Nizoral takes care of that for sure. I don't believe i've gotten regrowth from it, but I do believe it has slowed down my progression of hair loss. Without it my scalp would probably be an itchy oily mess and I'd probably have to use steroids or something for my skin

That doesn't surprise me very much. I once read a statement by Dr. David Whiting MD (a recognized authority on male pattern baldness), when he was asked (among other things) about using Nizoral shampoo to treat one's hair loss. Interestingly, I noticed that he answered all the person's other questions, but side-stepped and ignored the one about Nizoral! :)

It's always struck me as a little odd that people on hairloss forums like this one always refer to the "Big 3" of treating hairloss (which include topical minoxidil, finasteride, and Nizoral); but there's basically only one rather small French study supporting Nizoral for that specific purpose, so why are so many people making such a big deal out of it that they refer to it as one of the "Big 3"?? :dunno: Personally, I think it needs a LOT more testing than that.

All I know is for me..when I don't use it...after a week or so I get the male pattern baldness itch and my dermatitis flairs up..which i believe exacerbates my hair loss. Ever since I started using Nizoral I don't get male pattern baldness itch anymore and it is the ONLY thing that has completely gotten rid of the sebborheic dermatitis on my face and hairline . I think dermatitis plays at least a small role in many people's hair loss..and nizoral definitely helps with that.

I think there's 3-4 studies that have shown benefits for male pattern baldness, although one used cream and another was sponsored by the makers of Nizoral.

I was in the process of writing yet another post on this subject, when I noticed that you had just finished this one before I could finish my own! :)

Yes, I agree with what "kc444" said before you: those other "studies" (if that's what you can even call them) have some of the same problems he mentioned in his own post.

Why do you disagree with that, Jacob? Personal experience? Have you seen positive results with nizoral? If so, did you regrow?

If not, then why is more studies on this a bad thing (hence the rolling eyes smiley)? If nizoral was actually beneficial for hairless wouldn't the makers be sponsoring TONS of studies to get the word out so that they can have a piece of the money in this business? They already have believers, perhaps they don't want to sponsor any studies to scare off the people buying their product.

No..I'm :shakehead: over Bryan once again basically asking for more evidence- "Personally, I think it needs a LOT more testing than that."- for another ingredient/product.

Just try it, man! The guy in the thread you linked to obviously had a bad reaction but it doesn't mean you will. I used to wash with Nizoral every other day but for the past couple of years upped it to every day and my hair's looking thicker than ever (touch wood)

It has been stated that medications capable of maintaining the existing hair population should be regarded as effective treatments for androgenic alopecia. The present data suggests that ketoconazole should enter this group of drugs.

My advice is to not overdo it! At first I used it 2 or 3 times a week and didn't really notice anything, good or bad. However, my hairline took a pretty decent hit when I started using it 4 or 5x/week. I can't tie it directly to nizoral, but the random shedding stopped as soon as I quit.
