The Big 3 not enough for the very young ?

Hey, I've been a long time lurker around here for the past couple years since my crown started thinning at 19. It has only gotten worse, and although by hairline is a perfect Norwood 0, I'm diffuse thinning all over the top, on the crown especially (with no bald spot as of yet, just really thin hairs). I'm 22 now and two weeks ago I bit the bullet and went to see my doctor who prescribed 1.25 mg of generic finasteride a day and 5% rogaine foam; I also shampoo with nizoral three times a week. However I can't help from noticing that most of the failed treatments I read about on here are mostly posted by guys around the 19-24 age lines and the most dramatic success stories on here as well as the on belgravia centre's website are usually achieved by the late 30- early 40 year olds. I don't know, do you guys think that young guys have a much harder time fighting hair loss because ours must be exceptionally aggressive since it starts at an earlier age and therefore is impossible to treat to achieve worthwhile results? Maybe some young guys might want to respond with their success/failures to bear witness to this. I just want to know if I'm wasting my time and should be saving up for an hair transplant instead or spend time building a mindset that would be more accepting of just being bald.

Time will only tell if it works or not for you. Wait a year or more then decide if you want to move to something stronger like dutasteride which zzzzz is taking.

Hopefully, my loss on top is two-times worse than zzzz's though; that's what it looked like at 20. I see most people having visibly significant results at the hairline, funny enough, which is where I have the least problems.

Not sure about big 3 as a whole but with Finasteride it's definitely older, the better. Was shown in the 10 year trial. By old I think they meant over 40 though.

Ideally the best candidate to medication will:

Be older, early male pattern baldness, recent hair loss so easier to get back.

Its just from the success stories, I don't really see many younger guys post them. A google search doesn't really give much to go on either. Anybody else got an opinion on this?

yes younger people respond better because the hair loss is more recent although younger people tend to have more aggressive hair loss in general i would suggest you add a topical anti androgen to your regimen and i think you will maintain fine. i haven't seen your pictures but it's safe to say my hair loss is more aggressive than yours and so far 5 months in im having regrowth and maintaining fine(knock on wood)

It works better for older people who experience hair loss at an older age... someone who's 40 and lost all his hair in his 30s won't respond better. .. most of the young people here come here for advice and then go on with their lives... which is my opinion on why they don't post success stories... im still here cause I still need a solution...

i agree that older people can maintain a lot better than younger people because generally their hair loss is less aggressive and not to mention that they have lower androgen levels and probably only need finasteride to maintain but in my opinion a young guy with recent hair loss will experience better regrowth if you lower the androgenic stimulus enough but yea i also think most but not all younger men will need more than finasteride or maybe I'm completely wrong who knows

If a topical AA worked that well why would anyone even be on finasteride to begin with? Thats the whole problem is there arent any that work well. There are plenty of them but not much success with any of them.

I believe that the only reason as to why younger people "respond better" is because their hairloss is much more recent. Like a poster said above, if someone is 40 and has been dealing with hairloss since 38, he will respond better than a 20 year old who started experiencing hairloss at age 18. Just my belief.
