When it comes to the best of the best in topical treatments are spironolactone, nizoral, and min the way to go? and how is the Big Topical 3 compared to the normal "Big 3"?

As far as a Topical Big 3 -- it would seem those are the way to go. RU though is even more powerful than spironolactone, but it's too expensive and hard to find. In comparisons to the normal Big 3, I think the topical Big 3 comes very close. The catch though is that it's relative to how aggressive one's hair loss is. If the hair loss is very aggressive, I'm not sure how well the Topical Big 3 compares. Not too many try the topical big 3 route (there's less than a handful on this site that have even made the attempt). So you might not get much responses, and if you do, it'll probably be quite biased.

I would agree with RadioRaheem, how aggressive your hair loss is can determine how successful a topical regime can be. In some cases, even the Big 3 are inadequate to stem the loss. I personally have changed over to all topical due to Finasteride sides. Not only have I maintained but I am gaining hair so far. The only way to find out how you will react is to try it.

I'd say the topical Big 3 would be minoxidil, spironolactone, and copper peptides.

I'd put the ketoconazole into a shampoo category (where we also have plenty of options) rather than topical. Revita and NANO for the shampoos is what I'm doing.

I always get tempted to add new things to my regimen, but after adding in Revita (I mean since you have to shampoo anyways so that's no big deal) I'm going to keep my regimen the same until next January or February. This would give me 14-15 months on minoxidil and about a year on finasteride. I will then have weapons to add into my arsenal if I don't like the results at that point. Weapons considering would be: standalone CP's, topical spironolactone cream, Retin-A, and EMU Oil (though I might get some EMU when I run out of Jojoba for my Essential Oils topical).

johnnyseville, you said you are maintaining on an all topical regimen after quitting Finesteride.

So i see in your signature that you started this all topical regimen in February, 2007. Is this right?

Yes, had to change over due to sides. Initially I had hoped to just hold on to what I had gained, but at this point I have actually added more hair. I am very happy with this regimen, especially since all my sides are gone.

johnnyseville, its most likely that your still either holding ground or added more hair because of the Finesteride, even though you quit 1 month ago.

1 month isnt near long enough to determine wheather your still holding ground on this all topical regimen. Your hairs will take 3-4 month to notice the change once dht starts damaging it again.

I know lots of people on the boards who quit finasteride, and hair actually looked better for a little while, then suddenly their hair took a dive or the worse.

So let us know where you at in 5 months then we can really judge.

I wish you luck either way. I wish i could do an all topical regimen, but they just arent as effective 99% of the time.

I'd put copper peptides, minoxidil definetely as 2 of the top 3 topical treatments. Now determining the third choice is harder since I have zero experience with spironolactone or other treatments.
