Can any of the below topicals actually speed up the minaturiation process????
What if an individual wasn't going bald and used them ..... what would happen to them? (this is not my case but just a secondary question)

Just wondering as I am using all the below and minoxidil and the minaturising continues for me!! (oh and finasteride/dutasteride sides smashed me to pieces with gyno and libido so I have to use only topicals)

Revivogen
spironolactone
Proxiphen

Thanks

No

These topicals cannot increase minaturiation. However, you may go through a shedding phase that could last as much as 6-8 months. Then 6-12 months after shedding the hairs that shed should grow back thicker and stronger. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for male pattern baldness.

We need more info though. How long have you been using the topicals for. It can take up to 12months before you notice any benefit. Have you been using them for 12months?

Also when you say finasteride\dutasteride sides do you mean you tried both finasteride and dutasteride? If you were getting sides on finasteride why did you then try dutasteride? Did you try lowering the dose or taking finasteride every second day? Remeber that sides induced by finasteride and dutasteride do disappear with time (studies have shown this). If you can put up with the sides, generally you should give finasteride 6-12 months. You might find they go away.

Finally remember, Topicals cannot really stop the minaturiation process. Only finasteride or dutasteride can do this. So without finasteride or dutasteride you are fighting a losing battle.

Nobody sheds for 6-8 months. Shedding lasts max. 4 months, so shedding after 6 months on Finasteride isn't likely at all.

hey Aussie experiment -
Thanks for answering my questions.......

I got bad sides from finasteride even when I lowered my dosage - I then listened to the advice from the more hardcore on here and tried dutasteride (as I was told that some people don't get sides from dutasteride that they experienced with finasteride). dutasteride made my sides even worse (gyno etc) and my sex drive is still yet to recover (5 months later)....
I had a massive shedding phase when I stopped finasteride and started dutasteride, and even more when I first started revivogen... I have not recovered from this shed yet......

My regime right now is almost obsessive but since I can't take internals I want to cover all angles externally (until cloning is available) and since I've always had a stockpile of excess hair supplies I figured I may as well use them all up......

For the last 3 months my regime has been religously:

Shampoo with nizoril 3 times a week
Revivogen first thing every morning
2 hrs later 2% spironolactone
30 mins later 15% minoxidil cream
6pm spironolactone application again prior to leaving work'
after dinner and workout I rinse the old head under water, dab dry and the apply proxiphen and prox-n
before bed last minoxidil aplication

I figured if the above topical regime can't be successful - nothing can.

That said - earleir on in the past 7 years I stopped & started minoxidil usage a fair few times - so this seems to have lost it's effectiveness.

Check out the shedding forum

kevinme take a read through the shedding forum, shedding can last for up to 6 months. Why is this? Because many doctors believe that shedding as a result of Minoxidil or Finasteride is actually Telogen Effluvium. Read up on Telogen Effluvium. Telogen Effluvium sheds can last up to 6months. Depends on the individual. That is why you shouldn't judge the effectiveness of these treatments before the 12-18 month mark.

1750 hang in there. You if you are strict with your topical regime and live a healthy lifestyle you could have some success without Finasteride.

Also, have you considered Dutasteride or Finasteride in your topical? Yes it will still go systemic but you may be able to use a little less and get some decent results. Just a thought.

Telogen Effluvium can last a very long time yes, but that has nothing to do with hairloss. A hairloss shedding doesn't take that long, usually weeks for that matter. I really don't believe in effectiveness after 6 months, because nobody's haircycle is that long. Could you give me a link to that doctors explanation?

maybe I spoke too soon

mmmm - just shaved my head (as I always do every 3 months or so)....

And I think I MAY (I'm not positive yet either) have spoken too soon about the minaturiation effect on my head.

It's very weird as at the front and around my hairline I can see many hairs that were once thick hairs losing colour and thinning out (i.e. the top of the hair is thick and dark in colour, whilst the bottom is thin and going blonde).
Yet comparitively to the last time I shaved my head, it is much more difficult to see my scalp in the centre and there do seem to be lots of little hairs becoming terminal sprouting where my hair is very thin... (more in the middle of my head anyway).

I'm hoping what I see is not actually more minaturisation taking effect - but - this has been my first more positive post... and since I'm constantly checking my hair situation daily - looks POTENTIALLY like the start of something good.

Will keep any watching this thread updated

yep - definitely regrowth -

I know it's only been 8 days or so since my last post but things are definitely on the up.....

Ther are new hairs turning terminal, thickening and even catching existing hair length.

Still unsure why some seem to be thinning at the bottom of the shafts, however, the new hairs are making the density on my scalp look much better

continued success -

my hair is definitely improving - it may be slow but things are on the up

The following regime seems to be working well with no sides -

Revivogen first thing in the morning
spironolactone + minoxidil a few hours later
Evening Proxiphen + prox n + minoxidil

To me it feels like proxiphen and prox-n are doing the most as you can really feel where it is applied a small while after application....

I have many blonde vellus hairs around my right temple (my worst side) - that look to be fighting to grow again..... If they do take root I stand to gain almost a full cm of my hairline back!!

So, are you giving up on your treatment? It would be interesting to see if things improve.

I have been using minoxidil for 9 months now and hair is thinning as you explain, thick at the top and thinnner at the roots. I have been thinking of stopping minoxidil on one temple to see if it will get better.

Anyay good luck.

edit: you might be experiencing another shed.

No I'm not going to give up the fight just yet..... I want to give this routine close to a year as previously I would quit a routine after 6-8 months which is not idealic....

I'll stick with this routine for a bit longer because as far as I'm concerned I'm covering all bases...i.e. multiple DHT inhibitors, growth stimulants, SODs, anti inflamtories and anti androgens....

I think the main issues I'm having is with absorbtion???
I've been trying to think about what I have not been doing differently when compared to previously....

The only two things I can think of is that my minoxidil over the last few months has not contained progesterone and that I dropped doing the laser comb prior to my night applications of proxiphen and prox-n as it was a pain in the A...

The last 3 nights I have re-introduced the laser comb to my routine and it really feels like it helps absorbtion......

I just added retin-a to help with the absorption. I did not follow the instructions and for the first 3 or 4 nights I applied it... then my scalp started to burn when I applied the foam. Its back to normal after 4 or so days, so tonight I applied some retin-a again.

I guess if it was burning then the minoxidil was getting down lower. But I'm not gonna burn myself just for that. I hope I can find the right balance.
