By the way here is a good dosage chart for MSM,

http://www.kornax.com/MSM_Dosage_Charts.htm

Taking Vitamin C with MSM helps with absorption.

For best efficiency Vitamin C needs bioflavanoids.

The tangled web of requirements is sometimes confusing but these tricks should help you.

I tried the msm cream no notable effects - however taking up to 8 capsules daily gave amazing results. I began taking this about 5 years ago not on any strict regimen because I had all but given up on seeing any improvement (AA universalis for 26years - tough being the only bald girl in school back then) But the growth spurt is undeniable and the hair is indeed thicker and fuller, I now have only 2 small bald patches over each temple, the hair growth began at the back and is slowly working its way forward, eyelashes are back, oh and I also have a bit of a mustache too but I can tolerate that if it means this stuff is working - I shall try it with the vitamin c, who knows maybe it'll work a little faster!

skyye you say in your profile that you take msm, up to 8 1000gm pills per day, for several days in a row. I don't understand, why only for several days? are you doing some type of loading phase?

Has anyone tried MSM cream anywhere on their head/face/body and noticed any effect in hair growth speed or thickness or length or anything?

i hear the topical stuff is crap. you need to take it orally.
I actually just bought a bottle of powder and some vitamin c pills to test this stuff out for a month.

Where did you hear that? I'd love to take MSM orally, but it makes my back hair thick as hell, and that's absolutely no good.

You'll need longer than one month. Try two or three. Despite the fact you may respond well instantly, MSM as do other elements, minerals and vitamins, often require up to three months to show effect depending upon assimilation and any imbalance/obstacles that need to be corrected in which you are blissfully unaware of.

wow this stuff tastes like sulfur. bleh. If you dilute it in enough water its ok.
Well the powder i bought is 252 servings at 1.8g a serving (1/2 tsp) and 250 1g vitamin C pills so i'm doing one when i wake up and one at night. Thats enough to last me a few months (252/2 = 126 days). And from the reading your body uses what it needs then kicks the rest out.

For Vitamin C to be effective it should contain Bioflavanoids.

  • You need MSM.
    You need Vitamin C to help with the absorption of MSM.
    You need Bioflavanoids to help the Vitamin C absorption.

MSM doesnt smell, it kinda smells like a chalky sulfur, and thats what it tastes like.

But heck does it work fast, 1 month for me and had results, nothing noticeable on scalp but definetly increase in body hair, so presumably scalp hair.

also MSM topical should work, but internally works alot better im guessing

Is there any known sides to taking so much? I'm currently taking 1000mg a day, when I apparently should be taking 3 tablets instead of 1.
Also what are the benefits of adding it to minnox? Can I just grind up a few pills and add it?
The brand I'm using is Quest.

crap i have to take vitamin c along with it to get the hair growth benefits?

Jayman;

Yep, but wait theres more! Not only do you need Vit C to help absorb MSM but you need Bioflavanoids in your Vit C to help your Vit C absorb too.

Furthermore you may not want to take Vit C and MSM together with anything else that may want to compete with the Vit C at the predefined time.

Etc. Pain in the *** isn't it?

Thinning_Esteem;

Are you talking about MSM or Vit C? Either way, neither will give you ill effect if you take more than 1g (1000mg) per day.

I take 4g (4000mg) MSM per day coupled with at least 1g (1000mg) up to 3g (3000mg) of Vit C at intervals.

A recent, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pilot trial, performed by Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., showed that 100% of the subjects on MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane), a nutritional supplement that provides biologically active sulfur, showed increased hair growth compared to the group on placebo.

I would love to see that study. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be published yet which raises suspicions but then again I always had suspicions about that Elsner caffeine study that was so widely reported and that has finally seen the light of day so who knows.
There appears to be an assload of anecdotal reports saying this stuff can thicken hair which counts for something IMO but it would be nice to see a nice preliminary trial looking at MSM and hair growth to make it more concrete. A positive study on the effect of MSM on joint pain came out last year so even if it does have nothing for hair it may not be a waste of money for me to get some. I have lousy knees.

Jayman,

I don't think you have to take the other stuff with the MSM to get some benefit. those things might enhance the effect but aren't absolutely essential. I have noticed cosmetic benefits from the msm myself but then again I do take a multi every morn. Since most everyone these days should be taking a mulit anyway, why don't you just do that. For you, at 170, I think 3-4 gm would be enough. 3 gm has worked for me at 165.
