Think I'm starting to lose it...where should I start (pics)

Hi,

I'm 23, and here are some pics I took today. I am a bit worried as it looks like I'm losing my hair already so need to know where to start.

I think the the camera makes my hair look worse than it actually is, but seeing as it's visibly thinner at the back (and also at the temples), it's only going to get worse, right?

Where would be the best place to start? Would it be a good idea to see a doctor who could then refer me to a dermatologist? ANd is it best to act sooner rather than later?

Thanks for the help

People with your type of hair loss usually respond well to finasteride.

Get on finasteride as fast as possible. GET IT FROM A DOCTOR. Educate yourself. Definitely use finasteride and nizoral shampoo. Get it from your doctor. Perhaps consider minoxidil also.

Educate yourself, read the forums.

I recommend finasteride for 6 months then if you aren't seeing decent results start on minoxidil as well.

You should be able to keep all your hair if you do that ASAP.

Hey, thanks for the replies

when you say "my type of hair loss", do you mind elaborating?

do you mean in the areas that I'm thinning at?

And with finasteride do I stand a good chance of not only keeping hair but also having it grow thicker?

I've been reading about finistaride and I'm not so convinced I should take it based on the possible side effects and long term effects.

I was thinking of starting just on minoxidil/rogaine - could I expect to see any decent results with these two?

TAKE the finasteride... its the only REAL chance u have to save your hair. Side effects are in reality few and far between compared to sides from minnox which are very rare still unless u are unhealthy/overweight. dont fall for the scare mongering by the few people that post nonsense around the web.

You can expect good results but just keep in mind that rogaine and doesn't do much to actually stop the balding process. So while it may help thicken up in thin areas, you will still continue to lose in other areas. It isn't a long term solution.

Try the finasteride !!! (with an open mind) before you succumb to the fearmongers out there just remember there are millions of men worldwide taking it.

Oh dear, every person who is "concerned" about particular side effects before starting finasteride almost certainly "experiences" those exact side effects while on the drug (and strangely enough no others).

If you're worried badly about sides then don't take the drug, it's as simple as that.

Unfortunately, for male pattern baldness, it's the only thing that will really slow down loss.
Without it, your options are:

a) Continue balding but use minoxidil and nizoral = Your hair will be 10% thicker than it would have been, but it will continue to bald as before. Buys you about 6 months.
b) Use concealers such as Toppik for as long as you can, then try the shaved look when you hit ~NW4.
c) Shave it down to a grade 4 or so, and get used to that look.
d) Try one of the quack cures, or buy a hat.

Your loss doesn't look that bad, some mild diffusing. minoxidil might thicken that up nicely, but again, without finasteride, your follicles will shrink anyway, and you'll hit a point where you just can't hide it any more.
It looks like typical male pattern baldness to me, so you can see a doctor if you wish, you'll be given a blood test and a script for Finasteride.

What Norwood's are your family members? If they're all NW6's, really, finasteride is the only thing that really will work. It's all up to you, how important your hair is to you.

no joke i did experience sides at first with finasteride more than five years ago i mean there was a degree of temporary sexual sides and i absolutely felt a bump in my nipple that was tender but i decided that keeping my hair was more important to me than getting boners and having man boobs(because bald guys dont get laid anyways lol) but few weeks passed by and my system adjusted to no sides what so ever for years. when it comes to saving your hair u need to have some perspective on "how important your look is to u" basically u need to be in it to win it.... meaning finasteride minnox keto the works or u may as well just go home a bald loser because u just can't expect to fight male pattern baldness half assed there are no miracle topicals or herbs, u absolutely need to "adjust" your secondary male traits from within.

This shows the damage that the side-effect crowd are doing to the community. I honestly think that some of them are so bitter about being unable to stop their loss that they want everyone else to suffer the same fate as they did.

Dude, most people don't get sides. And when they do, they can drop the drug. There's no excuse not to give it a try.

my concern is that a few google searches bring up plenty of hits with people reporting some very severe side effects

this is why im thinkng it might be better to try something safer first before trying finasteride

Your assumption is right. There seems to be tons of reports, on any site, of really shitty sides.

You are also right about starting on other treatments first. I regrew all of my hair with rogaine. However it wore off over time. So maybe start with rogaine.

My doctor advised me of the same thing. He hesitated to put me on finasteride, and told me to start with rogaine.

I agree, why rush into propecia? If you can maintain on rogaine for a while do that cause it's safer. Then if the sh*t really hits the fan bring out the big guns.

What has happened to this forum? A year ago if you came here and asked this question, you would get ten replies in rapid succession that said this:

The chance of bad side effects is much greater from Minnox than finasteride if anything get on finasteride first because not only is it more of a long term solution to your male pattern baldness but it also has less of a chance for side effects.... minnox is serious sh*t people have heart problems serious skin rashes etc..... have u all not been reading this forum??
