The chance of bad side effects is much greater from Minnox than finasteride if anything get on finasteride first because not only is it more of a long term solution to your male pattern baldness but it also has less of a chance for side effects.... minnox is serious sh*t people have heart problems serious skin rashes etc..... have u all not been reading this forum??

:stupid:

:newbie:

:shakehead:

:puke:

:jackit:

That about sums up my opinion of this post.

Lol...You know only a noob would say finasteride is safer than rogaine...lol

Sure minoxidil has some risks but there is a reason why you can buy it over the counter and you need a prescription for finasteride. :shakehead:

lets perform an exercise guys.... all of u grab your rogaine bottles, read exactly what this chemical u slather all over your heads each day and night and which subsequently gets absorbed into the skin bloodstream and liver. Disclaimer: I am an avid minnox advocate as i use the big 3 religiously so dont get it twisted i'm just trying to give FINFearers some perspective. Now go ahead and do some research on these chemicals. NOW if u DARE (and i dont recomend this step because it's known to cause immediate and irreversible side effects from minnox such as limp dick hair shed severe rashes and depression) go ahead and google for rogaine side effect stories. If u still dont wanna use finasteride... that's "finasteride" with me i'm just trying to help. (LOL see what i did thar??) hey if u wanna be bald then fine thats cool with me but please stop crying on this msg board about how u cant save your hair because of some urban legend "brain fog"..... U WILL NOT SAVE UR HAIR WITH TOPICALS OR GOAT sh*t SHAMPOO OR FROG LIVER OIL OR DOG PISS EXTRACT your best chance is whats proven if u can't handle it... then try to handle being bald... what more can i say??

You're not giving anyone any perspective.

Go to the side effect forum, or ANY hair loss side effect forum, or any search engine, and you will see 1000% more finasteride sides reported than rogaine sides. finasteride fear exists for a reason pal. Nowhere is minoxidil reported to cause any sexual sides, let alone permenent sexual sides. finasteride is however.

Rogaine lowers blood pressure. Sure that can be bad, but its minor compared to androgen deprivation, and the hypergonadism it is reported to cause in some people. yes GONADISM...ie your gonads stop producing the hormones that make you a man. And brain fog is 100% real.

Stop being a jack ***, all the studies and reports are there. This isnt some voodoo superstition, these are real reported sides, and real concerns people have. You have no reason to come here and start being aggressive because you've revealed yourself to be a noob.

Rogaine is a medication and like any other it has potential negative side effects. No one is telling this kid to never touch propecia. However, he's only 18 and if he can maintain with just rogaine for a while no need to rush into finasteride at such a young age.

Go speak to Timi in the growth stimulants board for his opinion of minoxidil. He thinks the stuff is toxic, and he's been on finasteride for almost a decade.

Oh, Timi said so. Why didn't you say so! Now I'll quit using minoxidil immediately and disregard the preponderance of evidence suggesting that 99.9% of users have nothing to worry about.

sorry i did not mean to start a flame from all the butthurt baldies, but if u are on here u are desperate for a solution and even if brain fog existed and u got this "permanant boner fail" as u call it still, who cares?! having hair is not just about getting laid and "thinking clearly" lol..... it's about your overalll quality of life your ability to get a job make friends etc. it effects every aspect of your life drastically despite what people may try to tell u so take it serious! using topicals without finasteride is most likely not going to help u and if it does its even more unfortunate because that means finasteride would have drastically improved your results.... so just because your mad about maybe jumping the gun and quitting your dose and now lost all your hair dont scaremonger!! because its unfair to new users. have u even seen the OP's pix? a perfect candidate for the big3 if there ever was one. like i said this is my opinion from my personal experience and its absolutely your right to do whatever u want to your own body i dont care.... go have a hollistic powwow with chief running wolf and have him bless your hair with incense for all i care just stop spreading fear because not every1 will have your experience. in fact chances are they wont.

There is actually a case report of death by finasteride out there. I can't find it offhand though.

i don't doubt this Doug, but do u recall if the user was an old man taking finasteride fivemg for prostate problems? or was it indeed a vain douchebag taking it to save his hair? (not intended to offend just a joke guys lols as i'm a finasteride user and a douchebag myself) and to address the person who said "there's a reason finasteride need an RX to take" well man have u been to the local pharm? its filled with over the counter things that can cause awful side effects much worse than finasteride and even death (i.e sleep aids) i even knew a guy who killed himself with simple cough syrup, granted he was probably an idiot but still u can't just dismiss minnox as 100percent safe because u can pick it up at wal mart for almost next to nothing in price, like i said do the research if u dare. my point was and always is.... "HOW important is your hair to you?" think long and hard about that as i did many years ago and decide for yourself weather or not you want to fight this battle regardless of the risks that might be involved. i think some people here get too involved when answering simple queries from new users which are usually just "hey how do i save my hair" well the only answer there should be "the big 3" let them do their research and decide for themselves.... biased opinions from people who have had negative reactions(or imagined them) dont help this community they just scare people away from treatments that might actually help them and thus drastically improve their lives.

So I went to the doctors who did a blood test, and they showed I was low on folic acid, so I'm now taking a daily supplement of that, and we'll review the situation after 3 months. Any thoughts on whether the folic acid will have a major effect?

The Doctor said that if no improvements after 3 months, we'll try propecia. I was a bit concerned about the sides though so for the time being, what would best to try out initially? Minodill and Nizoral?

Thanks

ALso, one more thing I've started to notice is that I'm itching my scalp a fair bit, and I feel little bits coming off of it? Is this related to it all?

I am tempted to just go to another doctor and just get onto finasteride + min rather than wait another 2 months where things will just get worse.

I have very similar to your hairloss.

Get on propecia. It solved the itching for me and has already made my hair stop shedding in 4 months and feels better overall the quality(hair started to feel very brittle and crispy is only way to explain it).

I also had acne and itching in the area of the crown like you. This has subsided substantially(I also use capasual everyday).

Thanks, will try later this week.

A picture I took earlier today

One thing I'm bothered about is the amount of visible scalp at the back. My hair has grown fairly long since then and I'm thinking of getting it cut short (grade 4/5). Is this just a parting and so will dissapear with a short haircut or is there something else going on? Thanks

I only tried finasteride for 3 weeks before I stopped.

I did a bit of bodybuilding and later boxing training when I was a teenager/early 20's, back then I was taking all sorts of supplements and had gynecomastia issues, after 3 weeks on finasteride I started to feel the same changes I did then so I cut it all early and ended up selling the years supply of proscar to a guy on here.

Side effects do exist and you HAVE to know about them before jumping on the drug, you have to be able to identify them if they rear their ugly head. I dont know the full breakdown but I know some are more likely to be long term than others, so for example if you start noticing brain fog, theres more chance that'll go away than erectile problems.

All sides may very well pass as people have been saying on here, they do for the vast majority of users, they arent to be dismissed though.

When I was 18 I was getting sides from even the puniest of weight gainers lol. Now I think I could take it all in my stride, perhaps age might be a facter here, I dont think 18 year olds are supposed to have libido problems or prostates the size of a pin.
