I could go and get a couple hair transplants to get Norwood 1 status again while staying on the finasteride, or just give up and live my life.

I’m norwood 4-5 at not even 25 yet. Not sure what to do. The finasteride could be working but im still not sure how to deal with this.
Any thoughts?

I think you should stick with Finasteride. The reasoning would be just in case, at some point, you don't like the buzzed look and want to try something else like a hair transplant or at least lag into it with adding in hair fibers or the like.

It might be working, but I think it’s also causing depressing feelings in me which is why I’m consodering stopping. Not sure if it will subside, but hairs not worth mental health imo

I've felt depressed since starting finasteride three months ago but I think this is due to the hair loss and not the drug.

I don’t think that’s what it is. I’ve been losing hair for a few years now and much more noticeably over the last 2-3 years. The depression only set in I think with the pills. I’m heavily considering discontinuing. I don’t think there’s a ton of upside to continuing unless I put in a lot of other effort in addition to taking the pills to get my hair fully restored.

What would depress you more - the effect of the drug or losing your hair? You could get a hair transplant if you have the money, if it's a good transplant and your lucky you may not need to keep using finasteride.

Considering I was balding and not really having any notably depressing feelings before I started finasteride, clearly the drug itself will depress me more. Upon reading the article below, I think that I will discontinue taking finasteride. I want hair, but this sh!t finasteride can evidently wreck your life in multiple ways.

^ Finasteride effects your entire CNS, has deleterious effects on neurosteroids, increases depression and anxiety.. f*** that. It seems I'm better off without the drug.

I am quitting finasteride now and moving on. I will try a healthier lifestyle all around and look to future treatments that are less harmful. Worse case, I guess I'll move on. finasteride and minoxidil aren't worth it to me

The depression for me was the hopeless feeling of taking a drug wilth severe side effects probability to stop male pattern baldness. Also led to a lot of anxiety

When I take 1mg a day I get depression/anxiety that is directly related to the propecia no doubt about it... I take breaks and this goes after a couple days every single time.

I take .5mg 3-4x a week now and don’t suffer this at all since restarting... the way I see it, some is better than none.. i feel good and I’m still reducing dht.. if I lose hair, f*** it I tried but I’m not feeling depressed everyday to have a couple more hairs on my head

What's CNS?

Central nervous system

25 is probably too young for a hair transplant surgery.

That's probably a good thing. It will probably be more affordable when I'm a little older and a better candidate for surgery

I skipped my dose this morning and still feeling the sides.. Can't wait til this sh*t subsides.

That's an interesting approach. Are you seeing any results taking .5 mg a few times a week? And are you facing any other sides?

Only a small % of men get serious sides. Having said that if you do get them they are no joke and it sounds to me like you know what you need to do. Good luck.

1mg every day is the approved dosage however subsequent studies have suggested that taking a smaller dosage or taking it less often can have the same effect on hair loss prevention. Whether this would reduce the risk of sides is not proven though.
