Thinking of giving up on rogaine. Good idea?

I'm 30 years old and somewhere between a NW2.5-NW3....a receding hairline with thinning temples. First noticed my hairloss when I was 23, and went on a bunch of useless BS a year later but a year after that went on zix. My loss continued very slowly but in retrospect I think the zix may have helped. I used that (with nizoral on and off) for over a couple years until I went on a propecia-only regimen but had to stop after five months because of a puffy nipple and breast tenderness. I already had mild gyno so I'm just not gonna mess with anything that has the potential for gyno side effects.

At that point I went back on zix/folligen/2% keto shampoo but a year afterwards was disappointed at the lack of any results, and in the year and a half since I'd first gone off Zix for propecia I'd lost more ground than in the few years before that. So I decided to bite the bullet and go on rogaine foam. Since then, the last 11 and a half months, I've been on rogaine foam, folligen spray 1x/day, 2% keto shampoo 2-3x/week, and the last four months emu oil before my nightly foam application. I would apply the foam once a day sometimes, twice a day other times, but the past couple months I've been more diligent about doing it twice a day, and the last couple weeks have been trying to do it 3 times a day normally. It's just difficult because of how gunky it gets my hair.

Problem is, my temples are worse than they've ever been. The peak of my hairline is maybe a cm or two higher than it was a year ago, and my temples are thinning out like crazy. Especially the last 4 or so months. It's fine everywhere else though, and still pretty good a few cm in from my hairline. Is it possible that the minoxidil just hasn't kicked in yet or I'm going through some sort of long, late shedding phase, or is it time to try something drastically different? Or just give up and enjoy the little remaining time I have with my semi-youthful hair? One thing I can't stand about my regimen is having to apply crap to my hair several times a day. It's not very practical or discreet if I'm with someone.

You will regret quitting it, regrowth or not. I thought my crown had not improved significantly and it just looked better do to growing my hair out. I stopped minoxidil last October and it took a turn for the worse in January. You won't notice a change at first but your hairs have become dependant on it. Give it three months and you will notice it being quite a bit thinner! I am back on it and wish I had never stopped!

If this question makes sense......has the minoxidil made my hair dependent on it regardless of whether or not it's been cause for any improvement?

In my opinion, it's a possibility. Mscalp looks worse than when I started minoxidil. I think most people would agree with that too. I honestly think you will regret it later, you might cut down your application though.

I understand your question and I'm trying to figure out if there is such a possibility as well...
