4 months on minoxidil and 3 or so ish on finasteride. With nizoral 2% thrown in a couple days a week.
90% of loss is in hairline/temples. 10% is a slight thinning of the crown.
Right temple has only receded slightly in what I would call a 'mature hairline' fashion. This temple is in fine shape, but I applied minoxidil at the temple anyway to see if it could grow back my hairline like I was 13 again. No dice, really. I see little regrowth on this temple.
Left temple looks like someone took a bite of hair out of the edge. After 1.5 months of minoxidil application I saw small hairs growing in. They continued to grow to about a centimeter, fall out, and start over for the next couple months. As of today, some of them are reaching much longer lengths and are almost of cosmetic benefit. More have grown in, and with every new cycle splashed in minoxidil, they grow thicker, darker, and longer. At this rate, I expect in another 3 months to have some full length terminal hairs in what was once a balding, whispy hair area. So basically 6 or 7 months to see real, helpful results from minoxidil with hair that is about 2 inches long.
My thoughts on the regimen:
minoxidil - the workhorse. I would say this is responsible for the regrowth in my left temple. I say this because you can see the stronger hairs growing in right where I apply it and not anywhere else.
finasteride - I'm still not entirely convinced the stuff I have is legit. It's from India and comes in the form of very small white tablets (anyone have finasteride like this?) I did get some testicular pain in the first 4 days of taking it, which leads me to believe it is the stuff though. Assuming it is, I think its helping me maintain what I have and maybe had the effect of thinkening up my crown a bit, maybe.
nizoral - not sure if this does sh*t. But whatever.
Side effects:
Bit of the aforementioned testicular pain for a few days upon starting, gone.
No change in libido, weight gain/loss, strength (I do workout). No gyno, never had scalp itch, no increased heart rate, no dandruff, no redness or swelling from minoxidil, nothing.
The minoxidil does leave a white residue when completely dry, its not dandruff though and washes right off when I shower.
Thoughts:
About 2 months into minoxidil application I noticed the thinning actually moved a bit farther back and looked worse. I chalk this up to the minoxidil induced shedding of these hairs. Rode it out and I'm positive I made the right decision.
Oh and I also take a multivitamin with 100% DV of zinc, and omega 3 fish oil supplements. I don't think either of these do anything for hairloss, but are really good for overall health.
imout.
