Those of us on finasteride, can we still have children?

You're losing track trying to argue in circles
You're losing track because you won't admit I'm right.

Merck had a product on the market which was life-threatening, and they knew of it for years and even manipulated studies. If it was possible with a drug that can harm your life, I don't see why it would be a problem with a drug that can cause sexual sides.

If you don't get my points, than :dunno:

I think Shma's got a point! lol :)

However, I would just advise exercising caution, as with anything that's known to have a considerable effect on the body! :)

On a serious note, shma does have a point. However, at this point we would know if finasteride was that terrible for you. However you never know if 20 years from now they decide it has bad long term side effects. I guess that's a risk with any drug though.

You're not even on the same argument anymore... I see what your saying but that's not my point. finasteride has been taken by a lot of men now for a very long time. Millions of men in their prime years.... We would know problems by now.

Well, there are 1000s of users who have serious side effects and try to do something about it (not mentioning the board, else some users would freak out here). But getting ED and gynecomastia doesn't hit the news/court that much as dying.

What does that have to do with what I said? The side effects of one drug has nothing to do with the other. finasteride has been out a long time...I'm pretty sure we have seen all the sides by now

You started that :p.

However, ok I see what you mean.

GeminiX, a bit offtopic, but may I ask you how the sex drive goes when taking all those stuff to get feminine? Does it even exist now?

Reply is down there, scroll down only if you're not grossed out by such things...

Hello there :)

It's hard to say, if it exists at all, it's certainly nothing like it was as a man.

Everything is much more relaxed now, but not in the same way that it would be as if I had a lobotomy, more like I was a slave to to it before where now I'm in full control, just not sure I can be bothered.

Nothing is the same as it was, and while my bits are more or less functional, it rarely "jumps to attention", though with some encouragement it can be persuaded (of course, I still loathe seeing it there, and hate having it).

Climaxing is *very* different now, it can last for ages and is more like a swell with surges (think waves on a beach) as opposed to the much more short, intense rush of how it used to be.

Well I say it again that I have 3 beautiful children and was on finasteride and had no issues. The only "side" I ever had was a slight ball ache for 2 days when I started but was told that was my prostate srinking and the medicine doing what it was supposed to do.

I do not dismiss side effects at all and know people do get them but I also know you can easily blame anything on any drug that you are taking. Just read the side effects on Aspirin, it's enough to make you not want to take it.

I think people are right to be scared. To back the above up, I recently went through some fertility tests regarding propecia.

My sperm concentration, motility were above standard. They were actually much better than the normal population. So for me, this drug did not affect me.

So as a major precaution, if in doubt, get yourself pre-MOT checked beforehand.

My GP who had no experience told me to come off it, based on paper information. How wrong she was.

Just get some checks. You can easily get your sperm checked for a small fee.

my GP told me the same thing based on paper source. My greatest fear is having a unhealthy child because i was on finasteride. I have been off of finasteride for 2 years now. Everything has returned to normal. I am thinking of starting again, but was wondering how long it takes before effects of finasteride subside and is flused from the body.

I say this in case my wife and i decide to have kids. So confused.

I believe the finasteride is out of your body in a matter of days, however the effects of the finasteride take a few weeks to subside.

I have to say it is encouraging that, after everything you've put in your body...your "bits" still work haha. Makes me think, sh*t..if her junk still works after all shes been through...what could a little .5mg finasteride do to me?! hah

The thing is, it's so easy for a guy to get ED; even thinking about it can cause a guy to to lose form.

I suspect that the vast majority of cases where finasteride is blamed for brain fog, ED etc. is just my old friend Peter Paranoia coming to say hello. Physical sides like changes in ejaculate consistency, well that is a very different thing and should be checked.
