Those on Propecia: What ACTUAL side effects have you had?

I am about to start taking Propecia and have read about all the side effects that occur in like 2% of those taking it.

Put the studies away and I was wondering for those of you that are taking it...What ACTUAL side effects do you have or have had since taking Propecia.

Do these side effects last or do they go away once u stop taking Propecia?

Thanks!

The 1st time I went on 1/4 tab proscar back in '98 I experienced the classic negative sexual sides - which didn't bother me as much as going from a flat chested male to having a set of 32s.

I quit after 8 months - but managed to go from a NW4 to a 3.

The sexual side effects never lessened while on proscar but stopped after I got done taking it. 7 years and 1 million pushups later and I still have a set of perky man-boobs.

Now I'm a NW5A - 1 week back on proscar - and I'm hoping that the reduced dosage I'm taking (1mg every other day) will be OK for me. So far - no negative sides to report.

4 years and no side effects from what I can tell. I have a decreased sex drive recently, but that's mainly because my hair loss has resumed and I just don't feel all that good/attractive about myself.

I've been on it for a month and am definitely noticing a decrease in sex drive, though for me that's a good thing. Now instead of being horny 90% of the time, it's more like 50% of the time.

How come Merck's study only showed 2% sexual side-effects (positive or negative) yet on these forums it seems like 10-20-30% of people complain of them?

Could there be a psychological factor involved? ("I know it might cause a decrease in libido" ---> this thought in itself causes s decrease in libido).

It's either that, or the Merck study understated the sides, or the people who don't have sides don't voice their opinion.

Reading the FDA-Merck discussion, I'm fairly convinced their study was solid, so I think it's one of the other two options, or a combination of the two.

Jay

EDIT: I don't mean this to sound disrespectful to people who do complain of sexual side-effects. Just a theory :)

because a lot of us are young

merck's experiments were from 35-60 year olds

the effects are more pronounced on younger people (i am 19)

It must be plainly obvious to most people that people with problems make posts those who don't tend not to post.

How many posts have you seen titled: "Help guys! my libido is normal and my hair loss has stabilized"

You realy cannot make any value judgements from a forum set up to help people with problems.

If you sat in a doctors waiting room all day you would leave thinking "sh*t! everyone in this town is unwell"

This thread alone has shown the following results:

Trent: No side effects

WithTheLidOff:: No side effects

ix: No side effects

juststarting: No side effects

ropcat: Some side resolved after 3 months, no other sides

suferosal123: No side effects

hair_tomorrow: SIDE EFFECTS

Hotlegs: No side effects

Gonna_win: No side effects

mre: No side effects

DaveA: SIDE EFFECTS

This is the results from the people struggling with hair loss, those with issues with the medications and still the vast majority experience no side effects.

do you have any data to back up the claim that 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors have a more pronounced effect on younger people.

Ive been on it for 2.5 years. Recently I thought it was causing a lack of limbido with this new girl I have been dating. Then all the sudden I had tons of interest and we have been getting along real good for the last few weeks. So I think something else was bugging my system as I am pretty charged up at the moment :)

I never had a prob getting and staying hard, but for a few weeks there I just wasnt too excited about the idea of having sex with this particular girl.
