Hotlegs,

I agree 100% with all your assertions.

Random

"merck's experiments were from 35-60 year olds"

I wonder sometimes where these complete made up facts come from? I read the FDA presentation a couple of days ago. It was 18-41 I believe. In fact one of the questions from the FDA people was "we notice you have no data on people over 40-something...."

Have you not read the study

Int J Dermatol. 1999 Dec;38(12):928-30.

"Improvement in androgenetic alopecia in 53-76-year-old men using oral finasteride"

Brenner S, Matz H.

Department of Dermatology, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel.

random, people will read your post and mimic it either on other forums or in the future as fact, this happens repeatedly, this is how misinformation spreads quickly, unless you have a link to any data that shows 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors show greater sexual side effects in younger patients I will have to conclude this is more of a guess than actually any real information.

Yeah, I mean if it wasnt for this forum I would have never known that masturbation leads to massive irreversible hairloss!

Well the general rule is that hearsay evidence is not admissible but it was interesting to note that Peter Mac (an independent hair transplant surgical assistant, consultant, and hair loss researcher) at HLH said the following

"I attended the 2004 ISHRS conference in Vancouver. A leading dermatologist from the University of Vancouver showed some study data about Propecia that was a big eye opener. Finasteride has a tremendous effect on those of us aged 18-41. However it only has a minimal effect on those 42-60."

The link may be tenuous but could we assume for the sake of argument that the demographic that responds best to finasteride will have the greatest propensity for sexual side effects?

I think the reason why sexual side effects drop off in men over age 42 is that most men at that age are married and probably have been for several years. And, the length of marriage is generally inversely proportional to the incidence of sex.

If you are 45, married for several years, mortgage, 2.5 children, etc.... you don't want sex anymore. You just want that b**ch to leave you the hell alone long enough to enjoy a nice football game on TV.

The first couple months on finasteride my libido shot wayyy up. Then went back to normal. Then it went a little below normal.
Then at month 4 or 5 I got a slight case of gyno which I treated by lowering my finasteride dose and started using Tamoxifen. This seemed to help quite a bit.
Everything was fine for a few months and I was able to get back to 1mg of finasteride and stop taking Tamoxifen.
A couple months back (maybe month 12))my libido completely disappeared. Couldn't even get it up and on top of that the gyno started coming back. I dropped finasteride for 2 weeks. After 1 week off my libido came back nice and strong and the gyno started disappearing again. I should also mention that I was taking Tamoxifen again and using DIM for the Gyno and taking L-Arginine for the libido. Now I'm at month 14-15 on finasteride and things are starting to normalize again.
I still beleive that finasteride side effects are rare and I just happen to be one of the unlucky few that it does happen too.

Can anyone tell me how to identify whether I have developed gyno?

During the time I have been taking Propecia, I have also undergone great stress due to my hairloss.

Since I handle stress by eating a lot... My weight went up by 10kg. Now I can't decide whether I am developing gyno or its just me getting fatter. Help!!!
