Fellas I am approaching my 5th week on Propecia and so far it has been great no sides, libido is great, the package is great but lately I've noticed an increase in hair being shed and A LOT more thin small small hair is falling out from the head.

Now the hair is shedding from EVERYWHERE if I tug my lower donor hair I will get 2 strands come out easily, if I tug on the very bottom of the side of the head HAIR WILL COME OUT!

I am basically shedding from all over the damn head! And its mixed I am shedding full length THICK hairs aswell as unhealthy looking small strainy hairs.

I am worried because shouldn't the shed only be focused around the male pattern baldness prone areas of the scalp?

Thoughts

I am just using Nizoral 2percent and Geniune Propecia .25mg ED

I want to ask people who went through what I have if they've had success!!!!!!

Man, I think we are in the EXACT same boat. I started finasteride (proscar) September 20th and have noticed a huge shed leaving me wih a monster thin patch in the back. I also use nizoral 2%.

Sheds actually affect the whole head of hair, not just the mbp areas..It's just since the hair is thinner there allready it is more noticeable.

I think the sheds are a sign that it's working though, so I'm pretty happy. I had shaved my head to the skin right after starting so it looks allright with a full beard trimmed to the same lenght as the hair.

So you had a full head of hair as in thick hair and the shed was so bad that it created visible loss, holy cow I hope that don't happen to me because shaving is out of the question for me...

How many hairs you reckon you were shedding per day?when I try to grab hair out of my head I get maybe one or two every second time I comb through my hair

No, i was thinning a bit on top with a receiting hairline and when I started taking finasteride I shaved almost right away. I meant to buzz it to a number 3 or so, but my friend took a huge chunk out of the back so I had no choice other than to get rid of it all. Now that it's grown back the thin spots are much thinner and wider. The hair is still too short to figure how many a day because it just looks like scruff in the sink (I also keep a trimmed beard) but I would estimate it's probably in the hundreds by looking at how wide the thin patch is in the back now.

I'm not overly worried about it since shedding really means the finasteride is starting to work..but it is a but trying on the nerves seeing how quickly it progresses. If I could give any advice it would be to just ignore it and think that it's only getting worse in order to get better..personaly I find taking this attitude and keeping high spirits helps a whole lot.

No, it definately didnt ruin the hairline at all. It's noticeably thinner (to me anyways) but to say it's ruined would be a massive exageration

I have been on propecia since May 2005, and I first noticed hairloss around Nov-Dec of 2004. Since then , I've noticed I *always* get a shed more or less around that time when I first noticed it (winter)...last year was nearer the end of november but it's hit me a bit earlier this year (ie now, late october). 2006 I think I had a rough shed around winter time too. Good news is within a few weeks it's always been back to normal if not better, I'm hoping for the same this time around too as it's been a bit of a heavy shed last 2 weeks..

This is essentially just my hair cycle, so I'm quite used to it now. Hair is generally alright, except for a bad couple of weeks around winter time. Can sometimes go on for quite a while, eg month to 6 or even 8 weeks, (I think my hair didnt pick up properly til january 07 when i shed in winter 06) but if propecia is working for you, it will grow back!!
