Those Who Use Rogaine, What Side Effects Have You Experienced?

I;m Black and my hair is thinning at the temples. I usually cut my hair every other day to keep it low so it evens out with the thinning areas.

Is it a good idea to make a visit with the dermatologist for consultation? He said he usually recommends Rogaine. But I'm timid about using any hair loss products because of side effects. Are the only side effects dry scalp and chest pain? And is this something I would have to deal with daily? Also I heard I can't miss a day. Will my hairloss worsen if one day I fall asleep and forget to apply?

The worse case you might get dandruff from the liquid, and not the foam.

The worse case, your hair would go through a one time shedding phase, which only happens
once per follicle, and they won't all fall out at once.

It's probably not a permanent solution on it's own, but it can slow down balding for quite
a few years.

I tried it briefly and it gave me headaches and a pressure behind my eyes, I was likely just unlucky.

Missing it for a day every so often will make absolutely no difference.

For best results you should try and be consistent if you can.

Puffy face, dry skin, heart flutter, constant shedding, headaches....

Most people experience zero side effects to slightly elevated heart rate for a brief period of time after application. Topical minoxidil is pretty harmless as far as treatments go. Also not very effective for most people, but there are a few lucky responders that get impressive regrowth.

Don't overthink fda approved drugs that have been sold over the counter for decades is my advice.

The few times I tried minoxidil, I noticed that I looked "older"; I had a puffier face, more bags under my eyes, and just an overall "old" look to my face. Give it a shot though, if you experience the same sides I did invest in a good skincare routine to counteract it (e.g., Retin-A, Vitamin C serums, etc.).

I’ve taken it topically and orally (still do). Oral stuff I can’t go any higher than 2.5mg because I get really bad water retention, get chest pains and heart palpitations. It also makes me shed more than I otherwise would. Topical stuff can cause itching and dandruff when overused. They both caused me to have synchronised hair growth. Essentially I’m fucked with and without it.

I have been using minoxidil for 4 months , I have had some side effects during the first month ;chest pain 2 times and rapid heart beat 3 times(I was using 2 ml at each application so it was the double of the recommended dose).
Since the results( thanks god) were promising,I'm using 3ml now at each application with no side effects (,just buy a good anti dandruff shampoo and argan oil that I use every sunday...my scalp is clean and healthy for the next week...)

Argan oil is a magic thing,if you have your skin is dry and your scalp does not feel good...it instantly makes things better
