IBM,
I've had SD since I was 15 (I'm now 35) and only recently after years of using everything to control it with minimal success I discovered this yahoo group:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/se ... s-support/

Treat it using Raw Apple Cider Vinegar....(strong stuff!)

I'm happy to report that it's almost 100% under control now (for over a year to date) - only occasional small outbreaks which are quickly dispelled by following their regimen.

I suggest to any sufferer that they seriously consider looking into it.

Justin.

My male pattern baldness started showing up at about the same time my scalp got oily and skin got flakey.

I think male patern baldness is related to oily scalp and flakey skin.

You are right. My derm said the seb derm can be a reaction to the androgens causing male pattern baldness. He said it could worsten male pattern baldness and that I should get it under control. He also said all the hairs lost from seb derm would recover fully. That being said that was about 8 months ago and I havent seen any come back.

Hi All,

After i shaved my head and use some eczema cream for week my scalp is good for about five months with thick hair and no real loss of hair.

Im on the 7th month (long hair) now with red ichy scalp and losing hair (might be a shed to).

What pisses me off is that when i have short hair, after i shave it my scalp is healthy as! no fall out or red scalp.......

So as far as i know the only way to keep it healthy is shaving it off every year thats sh*t for me.....

Thats exactly my problem. The oil and itch started right where my hair my is falling out. I think androgens definately have something to do with it. How do I treat it? what did your dermatologist say about it? Do i use propecia just for that?

If you feel that a lot of hair is falling out and is in strange shape then start propecia and nizoral.

IBM, did you get the weired whitish stuff in your finger nails if you scratched your scalp? its not dry more like sebum and something else mixed together. I started getting this at same time my hairloss started. I'm 25, NW6. How effective has been finas for you?

Yes, sort of white/yellow cream though i scratch it on sides or back but no on top or hairline. Maybe it's dandruff mixed with sebum.

Propecia is a must. DHT need to be eliminated at all costs.

i have used nizoral for a long time. It seems to help like the night i use it but the next day the itch is back. Funny saw palmetto helps make the itch go away for me but then it just gradually comes back. Im pretty scared to use finasteride i must admit. I dont use couch medicine or advil so taking a prescription hormone inhibitor for life does kind of scare me a lot. I really think though DHT is my problem. Maybe i could try like .10 mg and see if it has any effect on the itch. I might try propecia and if the itch isnt effected after 2 or 3 weeks ill quit.

I really think strong shampoos were just making my problem worse. Saw palmetto convinced me the itch has to do with androgens. It just makes no sense because I have no history of male pattern baldness really anywhere in my family. Theres some recent study on hairloss help forum that says saw palmetto reduces DHT. That helped my itch and I think thats my problem.

I think they hit it dead on. Get that seb derm under control with propecia and Nizoral. My derm prescribed the 2% but I dont like it. I think its to drying to use more than 2 times per week. I like the 1% 3 or 4 times per week. The finasteride defidently helped the itching and flaking along with nizoral. My hair still sheds like crazy but I dont get the burning and itching scalp anymore. Omega 3 fish oil I believe has helped as well along with a better diet. Good luck.
