Time frame for results with finasteride, Please cast your vote!

I am creating a new poll for the finasteride users to develop some sort of an idea when they actually noticed some results with Finasteride. Every Finasteride user, Propecia, Proscar, Finpecia, Fincar etc...please respond.

For me, I am not sure I ever remembered "regrowth" or a month that things felt better... but I do remember that after about 4 years things seemed to be receeding a little again. After this pole I would be interested in seeing how LONG people felt finasteride MAINTAINED their current hair (as Im not sure everyone enjoys noticable improvement and maintenence is another less exciting kind of success)...

The first time I used finasteride - back in 1999/00 - by month 8 I'd gone from a Norwood 4 to a 3.

I'm back on now at a reduced dose - and I'm praying for the same positive results - but it's only been 1 month+ on this second go around. So, here's hoping.

I put month 7-9, although it was very ambiguous. It looked like it was getting better, but just a little bit. I would say at around month 11 or 12 it was very clear that the stuff was definately working.

I just wanna have an idea as to when newbies jump into the Finasteride commitment, when can they expect to see some results.

Doesnt mean that it has to be major regrowth. It could be thickening up of existing hair...or cessation of hair loss.

So just a little bump..for all those who havent casted their votes yet.

67 % noticed results... thats actually amazing for a hair loss treatment as rogaine only has about a 30% response rate (by microscope). Lack of hair falling out that would have been lost without finasteride may account for some of the other 33%... they wouldnt be able to report it, but it is a success of a different sort. It isnt a "cure all" but it is a good thing, much better supported than anything else available so far...

I don't think the effectiveness of a drug can be defined as pathetic if it is by far the most effective drug on the market for its purpose

Actually propecia's effects are well studied, as are its benefits. There are 5 year follow-up studies so far... It is unfortunate it didnt work for you. Propecia actually increases serum testosterone. It blocks conversion to DHT in the skin and prostate. Thats not castration.

Im sure your experience was upsetting for you, but reading your story it is hard to imagine how you blame it on propecia. Your first testosterone level was borderline low, then normal. Finasteride actually results in a 20% increase in serum testosterone. The endocrinologist you were then referred to found your hormonal system to be "normal." So, how is propecia ruining your life? Propecia has a relatively short half life and is long gone from your system. While some men do experience sexual dysfunction with propecia the risk of that happening is low (less than 10%) and reversible. The fact that your symptoms persist and that you feel your life is over raises the possibility (as your doctor suggested with his referral) that a large part of your problem is "in your head" as he referred you to a psycho-sexual specialist. Depression is another possibility. This is not to say that you arent having problems, but rather that performance anxiety has perpetuated impotence. It is good that you have been to a psychosexual expert. A urologist may further help quantify physical vs. psychological (with penile tumescence measurement).

In any case asking that people disregard the studies and experience of other posters in favor of your shrill, unfortunate but atypical story is counterproductive for most. If 3 doctors agree that there is nothing wrong with you physically after doing some lab tests, the half life of the drug says its gone, your hormonal tests are normal, and your still having problems chances are good that your problems arent due to propecia.

I would like to see this poll applied only to guys who have taken
finasteride for at least 12+ months.

IMO people should be discouraged from posting results or making comment about the efficacy of the drug until they have been on it for at least 12 months.

Otherwise we're just dealing with conjecture. Results should not be anticipated before the 12 month mark.

I agree. But some people have seen some results by month 8. I think Deaner saw thickening in month 8.

ActionPackt photos showed considerable thickening by Month 6 and then it just got better n better.

So as Red Rose said, please cast your vote only if you have been using finasteride for more than 12 months OR if u have seen some thickening/regrowth before that.

If you have used it less than 12 months and are yet to see results...DO NOT vote "Did not see any results".
