Tips for Enhancing the Absorption of Minoxidil Application Along the Hairline

I am looking for something to add to my regimen of 2xdaily minoxidil application. Something that could help enhance skin elasticity without clogging pores. In other words, nothing "too thick" like coconut oil. I have read that tretinoin may enhance the absorption of minoxidil. I have also read encouraging anecdotes regarding emu oil, castor oil and copper peptides.

I have fairly sensitive skin, so nothing overly harsh. Also, I am not interested in customized solutions. Just something to add along with minoxidil foam.

If you had to choose one of these to apply with minoxidil, what would you choose?

emu oil vs. castor oil vs. copper peptides (shampoo or spray) or _____________.

tl;dr: What topical supplement best serves as a foundation for making the skin most receptive to minoxidil application?

Have you considered the possibility of applying the minoxidil to a fully hydrated scalp? Be very cautious if you do that!

Full disclosure: I started minoxidil for the first time two weeks ago. And I'm only using it on the temple/hairline region.

What do you mean by "fully hydrated scalp"? -- What's the best way to hydrate the scalp? Emu Oil? I just know that coconut oil makes my hair very greasy/weighs it down. Would Emu serve as a better alternative?

And why should the application of minoxidil to a fully hydrated scalp be approached with caution? The only way in which I've exercised "caution" with minoxidil is being sure to avoid contact with cats. I guess I haven't given serious thought to the other consequences involved in minoxidil use. I did read somewhere that minoxidil could cause wrinkles? Particularly under the eye area? Which is interesting, because I have noticed my eyes becoming a little "teary" shortly after minoxidil application. Anyway, feel free to inform me of any downsides associated with minoxidil. With a post count that high, I'd be sure to listen to your advice. I am using 5% Rogaine Foam.

Applying to a "fully hydrated scalp" means applying something to a water-soaked scalp. Dr. Proctor has talked about that HUNDREDS of times back on alt.baldspot! :)

That can greatly increase the absorption of topically-applied drugs, although it depends exactly on which one you're talking about. It can increase by something like 10-fold to 50-fold or so (depending on the drug). Dr. Proctor has said that this is a very common trick used by dermatologists. My own personal assumption is that it works better for water-soluble substances than fat-soluble substances.

I suggested using that with caution, because it's possible to get an EXCESSIVE amount of absorption through the skin with that. The skin should be MOIST, not completely wet. Apply very small amounts of the drug at first, just to be sure that you're not over-doing it. Be on the lookout for excessive absorption!

The one very serious issue I have here is the Rogaine "Foam" that you're using. I'm not sure where that fits into this idea of appying to a hydrated scalp.

Amazingly Bryan has all of a sudden found things he's interested in responding to. Not so-amazingly.. he's taking the opportunity to push Proctor again.

To physicalism...maybe look into an encapsulated/liposomal/nanosomal version. Enhanced absorption..time-release of the minoxidil..etc.
