Can the vets please advise as to the best products and routines for a) preventing/minimizing and b) correcting color fading or color changes over time? How do you guys approach this issue? Especially interested in experiences from those that wear dark brown hair but any advice is appreciated even if a different color.

Use a leave-in conditioner with sunscreen (at least SPF 30) every day. If you go in the sea or a chlorinated pool, wash the chlorine/salt out immediately and replenish the conditioner. Wear a straw hat if you are going to be in the sun for a long period. Use a colour-correcting shampoo or conditioner whenever needed (for me about every 3 or 4 weeks). Don't over-wash the hair.

But most important of all - wear the hair, and don't let it wear you. These things are cheap enough to be regarded as disposable now. If you unexpectedly end up at a nice beach and you haven't brought your hat or your conditioner - forget it. Plunge right in. Don't let wearing a system hold you back.

Thanks Noah.

  1. I have both the standard Pro Touch leave in conditioner as well as some Bumble&Bumble invisible oil. Both claim UV protection but neither mention the exact SPF. Are these the wrong leave-in conditioners to be using and are there products with better SPF protection?
  2. When you say overwash, do you mean don't shampoo too often or don't wet too often? How often do you rinse under water? How often shampoo (2x/wk?)? How often use conditioner in shower (I am not talking about spray on leave-in conditioner which is daily)?
  3. Why is the sun so bad for hair? Can't you just use the color correction after? Trying to figure pros/cons of not wearing a hat if I'm at a picnic or whatever. Not clear to me how bad it really is. I guess a good plan is to wear an old back up piece on vacations that will require lots of sun time.
Thanks again for being so damn helpful!

"But most important of all - wear the hair, and don't let it wear you." Best hair piece forum advice I have ever read during the last 10+ years! Should be mandatory reading for every person ordering for the first time. And likewise mandatory ready for many wearers who even after years of wearing still just don't get it. Congrats Noah. You are now the grand prize winner. A check is in the mail.

Thanks Lace; I probably plagiarised the thought from someone else. Does that mean I have to share my prize money?
