To all you spironolactone/minoxidil/nizoral people...

I'm currently taking 1.25mg finasteride daily, but for various reasons I'd prefer not to use it. I'd like to go to an all topical regimen. I've seen some members on here using a spironolactone, Minoxidil, Nizoral combo.

How has this regimen worked out for you? How long have you been on it? My hair is very thick; my hairline is simply receding. I'd like to stop the recession and get some regrowth if possible, but I'd be perfectly happy holding what I have. Thanks all.

Several reasons, mainly:

1. Not getting it up like I used to. This is a fact.

2. Trying to "recomp" (gain muscle and burn fat at the same time). Many people believe that this is impossible as it is, having extra estrogen isn't going to help. I know that finasteride isn't supposed to hinder muscle building, but fat loss and general hormone levels are a concern to me.

3. General dislike of screwing with hormones and taking oral medications.

4. Irrational fear of future side effects.

I may very well end up staying on finasteride, because my hair is very important to me. I'd just prefer not to, if possible. On the other hand, I don't want to look back years from now and think "Oh, I was a whiny-***. Should have just stayed on Propecia and I wouldn't be in this situation." It's a tough choice.

If you are completely sure you are not getting it up like used too, then you can lower the dosage to 0.5mg or even 0.2mg as it said to be ALMOST as effective as 1mg. If you have some extra buck to spend you can add topical spironolactone along with the lower dosage to cover the lost ground from 1mg.

split the pill into 5, this will make a big difference to getting it up.

getting it up will fade with time and you should have no issues, will that what happened with me,,, im like a bull now lol

I am also a body builder i have done many competitions, with the finasteride pill i have had no issues, im just as strong and builder muscles just as easy,, i am a little heavier but dont believe this is the pill i just like my food at the moment.

My regimen (spironolactone 5% Cream, Rogaine Foam, and Nizoral 2%) combo is working fine it seems. However, I haven't been on it for that long. The only change I'll be making soon is switching from the 5% spironolactone cream that I bought from wholesalehairproducts, and using Genhair's version instead (since it doesnt have a funny smell). My temples have experienced a little bit of regrowth. But I still have another 3-4 months to go before I can say whether or not the regimen I'm on is successful.

I'm only applying spironolactone and Rogaine foam to my temples. So if you are only concerned about your hairline, it should be fine. But if your loss is happening in more than just the hairline/temples, then finasteride is the way to go.

This is a hormonal drug we are talking about which causes sides in some people. If 0.5 mg and 0.2 mg are almost as effective as 1 mg, then wouldn't the sides be almost as bad for this person at the lower dosages? I think so.

You have a point, and i am no expert to know for sure. But i guess it depends on what we mean when we say that 0.2mg is as effective as 1mg. Effective for changing hormonal levels the same, or effective for hair growth and mantainance whilst having milder effects in DHT and Testosterone? If i remember correctly 0.2mg lowers 80% of the DHT that would be lowered by 1mg. Perhaps this extra 20% would be enough to take away the sides (since they are very mild) while enough to save someones hair.

i see your point but i do have doubts that it would do any good. still, never hurts to try.

my sides are better on 0.5mg than 1mg, touch wood.
