To Use Rogaine or Not?

I've been using 1mg of proscar every day for a couple of years. Ive receeded a lot at the front in this time but still seem to be ok on my scalp. In an effort to try and keep some of my hairline I bought some Rogaine, but I'm unsure of how to use it and whether it will be any use at all? If I just apply it to the front of my head at the sides where I'm receeding, is it possible that I might keep this hair? Or some grow back? Would that be areasonable strategy or should I just put it on my scalp as directed even though I don't seem to be thinning on my scalp just yet (although I do seem to lose lots of hairs there and have done for years)

You will most likely get modest regrowth from minoxidil and you should only apply it where you see thinning. You really need to leave it in for at least two hours(if you are using minoxidil liquid) and understand that you will likely experience a shedding phase that will last roughly 2 or 3 months. This is natural and is the result of hairs reverting from the telogen(resting) to the anagen(growing) phase. There are some people that get amazing growth on minoxidil but they are definitely in the minority. Good luck!

Thanks mate.

So it's worth just adding to the sides at the front then you reckon? (Where it's thinning - whats left!)

I would apply it to any areas where you have lost hair as well as the areas where you notice some thinning. Keep in mind that using it twice a day can get to be a real drag, which is why I switched to once a day. Didn't notice much of a difference between once a day and twice a day. Oh and another thing, try to stick with the liquid. Some people were saying that the foam doesn't have propylene glycol and that supposedly helps with absorption.

I've got the foam mate, will look into liquid next time. I've started using it anyway so I'm in for the long run now

How do people apply hair gel when using this stuff? I'm worried it will spread the rogaine onto areas that don't need it

Stick with the foam Its much easier to use and less messy than the liquid just apply it to the front where its thinning. It's what I do and I've had good results for 5+ years.
