OK, listen. I'm a 24-year-old Irishman and am currently a Norwood.2.5 (and counting). Back in August, I went to a clinic here in Dublin. A very good and extreamly expensive clinic. The derm I went to see is one of the most popular hair transplant surgeons in the country. Probably the best (I won't give his name, just in case I get sued or somethin). I really thought I was in good hands.

To my surprise, he told me I have nothing more than a mature hairline. I didn't need finasteride or anything. He just said "Get on with your life". It sounded too good to be true but I chose to believe him. I was over the moon.

3 months later, I noticed that my hairline had definitely receded more, so I went back to him, hoping to maybe start a course of finasteride. He told me no again, that it was still just a mature hairline and refused to put me on finasteride. Again, I beleived him and skipped home with a smile on my face.

Now, today, I just got my hair cut very short and I can tell you- My hairline is fuckin STILL receding. It looks worse than EVER. I'm in and around the Heath Ledger mark and I am not happy.

What should I do? Go back to this guy or get a second opinion? Replies would be appreciated.

This is a no-brainer, get a second opinion. Do you really need to be told this? :p

Second opinion man. I had the same experience with a doctor. Told me I had one of the thickest heads of hair he'd seen and that I didn't need anything. Got a second opinion and was put on Propecia.

Yeah, you're right. I should get a second opinion. I guess I just wanted to hear someone say it. That and the fact that guy I already went to is so very qualified and popular. He's got like a 1-year waiting list. He also showed me some pics of his work on patients and I was very impressed. So, if I do go bald, he'll be my man for the the hair transplant.

your own opinion is all you need

what could a second doctor tell you? he has never seen your hair prior to right now- so how would he know if it's in the process of receding or not? only you and the people you see often know if your hair is receding or not.

if you think it is, then jump on propecia a.s.a.p.

definately a second opinion and lots of research! finding a derm, surgeon or a even a primary care doctor that is interested in bettering your situation can be hard to do sometimes.

I thought i was the only irishman here

you should get on proscar (a cheaper form of propecia) http://www.qhi.co.uk

they ship to ireland, rather cheap too, approx e55 for a month supply, including shipping.

you're probably better off going to one of the clinics in the uk.

So long, Hair, is propecia actually available in ireland?

Atleast you know this guy is ethical and truthful (to a fault) if hes turing down your business time after time. Many of us don't have prescriptions for finasteride and use other and cheaper methods to obtain it.

Yeah. You can get it here. It's just not as easy to get here as it is in the UK and US.

Are you guys nuts?

That doctor isnt being ethical - HE IS A hair transplant DOCTOR!

He wont put you on propecia because he wants you to go bald and then get a hair transplant from him.

Dont go to a hair transplant doctor to get a propecia prescription - go to a normal dermotologist!

Every hair transplant ad I see tries to downplay the effectiveness of propecia and rogaine - even though they give it to every customer of theirs who has already had a hair transplant from them!

Those guys are in business to make money, and they make money by your hairline getting bad enough to require a hair transplant!
