Topical Antihistamine ?

so as it seems to be widely accepted that the immune system attacking follicles plays a large part in hairloss, would there possibly be any benefit from a topical antihistamine? or something similar. we've all read about how cyclosporine induces rapid regrowth so shutting down the immune system is good for hair but very bad for life. but something topical would be great no?

has anything in this direction been researched?

I have actually brought this up myself in a past post. There are topical antibhistamines, and I was thinking about trying them on my scalp to see if they would do anything!!!

what topical antihistamines have you found dude? i spoke to a friend in the pharmaceutical business and he said that all topical antihistamines tested had produced lots of skin lesions etc and never gone to production

as ive mentioined before cyclosporine induces rapid growth but doesnt affect the balding process. Before people consider trying such things they should consult people who actually take these drugs for their intended purposes. Go to an autoimmune messageboard or some such thing, guys will tell you they have to shave twice a day but still go bald.

antihistamines are taken every day by allergy sufferers, they have absolutely nothing to do with drugs to stop you rejecting transplant organs. before the both of you write things off you might want to make sure you know what your taking about. i mentioned cyclosporine simply as proof that the immune system most definately plays a large part in the balding process. antihistamines are for the most part non-prescription drugs safe for everyday use. their topical application could possibly reduce the amount of histamine ( hence the name) in the scalp.

by the way the fact that i said "very good for hair but very bad for life" should have been a little clue that i wasn't suggesting them for general use

I know entirely what I am talking about with regards to immunosuppressants as I am on them. Not cyclosporine but azathioprine. Strangely hair LOSS is listed as a side effect of azathioprine yet its function in suppressing the immune sytem is the same. You mention cyclosporine as proof but I really dont think this is the case, find me someone that has grown hair in bald patches with cyclosporine and I will be amazed. It just grows hair faster that is all. I'll say it again, thousands of people take cyclosporine for its intended person find me one who says it stopped them balding.

once again, im not interested in immunosuppresants, just anti-histamines. i dont think they'd be classed in the same category. as to the cyclosporine thing, i haven't researched it myself but it's been said in many places by reputable people. maybe its one of those "facts" which have been repeated so often people (such as myself) beleive it true even though its not been proved. same could be said for the greenhouse effect.
