not necessarily. in one study, female hirsutism was successfully treated with topical finasteride (in ppg and some cream base), and no evidence of systemic absorption was found.

overall, results have been mixed--the vehicle may be the key.

ok, so I am reviving this old thread because I dropped two Fincar pills into a 1/2 full bottle of Kirkland minoxidil (5%) and when I came back a few hours later it had completely dissolved. I have started applying this finasteride-minoxidil solution on my scalp. The problem is that the dissolved Fincar tablet leaves a residue on the scalp if I shake the bottle before applying the solution. If I don't shake the bottle the white stuff remains as a think layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. I don't know if the Finasteride is fully dissolved in the minoxidil solution or if it is in the white sediment. Any idea? Has anyone tried filtering this (using a cloth or filter paper)? Will this still allow the Finasteride to stay in the minoxidil solution?
P.S. I am continuing to take 1/4 finasteride orally three times a week - just wanted to experiment with the topical finasteride (given that it is cheap).

im not doubing anyones success but if i was taking it id just take it in pill form---and i defintely wouldnt add it to my minoxidil simply because i wouldnt want to weaken the minoxidil---if youre not a chemist--you should leave well enough alone and use them separately-it would make sense that it would work--i mean if it affects dht in the body it should affect dht in the scalp---but then again as ive said elsewhere im using topical saw palmetto--much cheaper--as a supplement to my core regimen

Where do you get saw palmetto in a form that you can apply topically??? I know products like revivogen contain Saw Palmetto but it's damn expensive, so I assume there must be a way of making it yourself?

You could probably get some saw palmetto extract that comes in gel caps, poke a hole in the gel cap, squeeze the extract out into a suitable container, and apply it with a dropper. Just a thought. No I do not know where to get it in its liquid form. Would be convenient to use in your case huh. Do a search and maybe you'll find some. Use google :)

Heres a few links :
http://www.iherb.com/sawpalmetto11.html
http://www.vegetarianvitamin.com/catalog_83.html
http://www.vitasprings.com/saw-palmetto ... nswer.html
http://www.naturesalternatives.com/herb ... metto.html

I would stick with the liquid that is the actual extract. It should have a more potent effect. I did a search on google for you. :)

Dunno - but it can't hurt to try, can it??? I tried finasteride and it screwed with my head I tell you. I was off the planet about ten days into taking it - recurrent deja vu sensations and a general vagueness. I couldn't get off it quick enough, hence - I'm back to the untried and untested. I may give it a shot. Maybe once a day - in the evening.

Okay. Nothing wrong with it. Have there been any reports or studies done with topical finasteride? Any users with good success? I was told that finasteride only works on a systematic level, not topical, localized level. Who knows, they might be wrong. :)
