Hello,
I’m looking into hair systems for the first time, the company Total Cover Plus looks great although a little pricey.

has anyone tried their systems or recommend something similar?

any help appreciated as this is very new to me and I am unable to conceal my baldness any longer without an intervention.

thanks

There is no need for a massive cost some of these companies put out, they are buying from the same chinese manufacturers we are. Buy a hair system (should cost around 300 dollars in covid prices) and have it cut in by a stylist for 100-200 max. NWL, hairbymhe, lordhair I have used and have been happy with the quality. Currently wearing a LH french lace unit that is great.

Thanks, do they offer similar products to Total Cover Plus? Real human hair, thin skin application etc? Im very new to the options available so please forgive my naivety.

TCP can be good but 90% depends on the stylist/salon you choose, so focus your research there.

For now, TCP have been impacted in a bad way with Covid and Brexit, so they might not be the best choice at this time - best to check first before you order.

I would avoid personally.

If you look at their YouTube videos they have this bad habit of doing undercuts and o
Plonking on a dense hair system with a wall of hair.

They also are very expensive. The fees get crazy. Their hair systems are very expensive in the first place, then I've queen quoted £180 for a cut in (which they did in the main salon) and then £80 I think it was for maintenance. They suggested once a month which is total nonsense. Don't go for that long.

Next they are stock pieces which means you have no colour match and density options in the same way. They actually wanted to dye my hair to match the piece.

Where are you located in the UK?

Im not sure what they carry, but I can safely assume its going to be skin, thinskin, or any variation of lace or combined lace/poly. The same stuff you can buy online. It may be worth going to them and just shelling out the cash for your first time, but honestly id just see what kind of piece you want and buy it online and have them or someone cut it in for you. Right now the easiest thing you can get your hands on is a thinskin due to shortages. It's all real human hair on the websites you choose unless you specify you want synthetic.

TCP are a big company that source systems to salons around the uk. The systems themselves are thin skin and are of good quality, but the results are dependant on the individual salons.

They are really expensive, I know they have a monthly payment option but again the salon fees are added and to make matters worse they are no longer located in North east England and which is where I live. I wanted the ease of not having to apply the piece myself and to be able to leave it on a month with just basic maintenance.
Are there many salons that will apply a piece I buy myself? Thanks

Usually, you get a wall of hair which doesnt look natural, but its an easy starter for many before they move on to the proper stuff

The biggest challenge facing any supplier/salon right now is that of actually being able to get orders fulfilled. From what I'm hearing, there are still huge problems in China and also with Brexit, which are impacting companies such as TCP to the point that no stock is available.

This will be a make or break time for hair replacement businesses. Those that are getting stock will win many more customers, and those that cannot fulfil promises could very well go out of business.

Thanks for all of your replies guys, I really appreciate it. Although it does now leave me a little confused. My preference would be for a salon to do the whole thing for ease and (hopefully) they would know what they are doing...

based on what most of you are saying, you buy the pieces directly from the supplier and then ask a local salon to apply and style? Can any salon do this or would it be a specialised salon?
From point of view I thought the TCP looked great, but obviously you guys know more about it then I do.

sorry for all of the questions.

Total Cover Plus were my first ever hair system.
Pretty crap tbh.
0.3mm thin skin, the hair was dense too. And cost £420, claimed to only last a month.
And all Total Cover Plus used was one glue of their own brand, but was applied like Ghost Bond in layers.
So presume was Ghost Bond.
Will try find pics of it. Looked fake and the stylist did a piss poor job too.

Thanks for your reply it’s good to hear from people who have used them. If you don’t mind me asking what do you use now and do you DIY? Thanks

Current system was from Optima hair, but don't use them anymore as the don't do full lace bases and are too expensive.

I ordered a custom hair system from Hair Hub in Nov 2020 but it's not here yet.

And DIY currently too.

I think right now you'll be fortunate to get a custom piece from any supplier. I'm sure many will promise the usual 3 to 4 month delivery but in reality they will happily take your money and then leave you waiting for months longer.

Can anyone here vouch for an honest supplier who is still able to get custom orders within 3 to 4 months?

I was at one of their German locations today, and unfortunately I won't be able to keep the piece they installed. I thought that working with a salon would be a great way to get started, but this was not the case. They had a process to go through, and did not ask me very many questions, or make much effort to work with me to find a solution that would look right. Even the color does not match, although the stylist kept telling me that it did.

To be fair, I am a hard case, ever since my hair thinned out, I cannot for the life of me find a stylist who knows what to do with my head. When I was younger it just "worked", with no effort. The point I am trying to make is - maybe the Total Cover method would work for someone who is more conventionally attractive. But if I'm going to wear a hairpiece, I will need to recreate whatever it was that worked for me in the past, instead of gluing a "one size fits all" system to my head.

Some side notes:

- I got 80% density, and it's far too much for me. I asked about getting even lower density, but the stylist didn't seem to know much about it. Maybe clients do not ask for this?

-Wall Of Hair. The dreaded problem. Again, I asked about more natural hairlines, but the stylist didn't seem to know much about that.

-They were nice, friendly people, but the product they're selling is not what I need. I need to consult with someone who has the time and patience to actually look at my facial structure, and figure out how I could look good. For the price I was charged, I could expect this type of service.

-Two of the employees were wearing, and I didn't like theirs so much. So, in the end, it is my fault for going ahead with it, expecting mine to turn out better

Thanks for the info it’s much appreciated and as you say one size does not fit all.
I find it all baffling to be honest. Not that I expected it to be easy I just didn’t think there were so many options.
How long do people wear their systems at a time?
Initially if TCP is not an option I would like to buy a system (which system however is another difficult decision) and ask a salon to install and cut if possible and removes etc when needed does that sound viable?
