Hello, i posted here around one year ago or so, really concerned with some minor hairloss that i was suffering for years , being as objective as i can be , im 28, im probably norwood one , with some minor recession on my right temple and some miniaturization; my derm wasnt sure if i was receeding or not, but , knowing my family history he suggested me to start taking dutasteride every other day because i was so worried and was generating me a lot of anxiety, just to maintain what i had.

It went kind of well for a few months, but i started to have some really disturbing sexual side effects, even pain while ejaculating, so i went back to him and he told me to switch to oral minoxidil, 5mg every other day. Sexual side effects from dutas disappearead after a while, but same history with this, after a few months im suffering from shortness of breath and palpitations in the last few weeks symptoms that improve or dissapear when i stop taking it, so im guessing the pill its whats causing it. I guess i wasnt lucky with these treatments.

i dont really noticed any major improvements while taking these two, maybe with minoxidil my hair feels a bit stronger, but noone in my family or friends noticed any improvements or losses, so maybe those treatments didnt do anything to me , maybe maintaining it, which is actually good enough but i cannot be sure that they are doing it at all.

So my question is , knowing that my hairloss doesnt seem too agressive , what options are left for me now? Are there any topical treatments that are scientifically proven that can help me maintain what i have just by themselves? What i dont want is dont do anything about it and go back to that terrible anxiety i had and worrying all day about my hairloss... I guess i will get the same side effects if i switch to topical minoxidil right?

Thank you all in advance.

By the way , i know im in a better position than most here regarding hairloss, im not doing this to brag or anything, i really know the struggle, i even had a two month long depression when i started obsessing about my hair, i know how much emotional suffering causes to people, i just dont wanna go back to that, because i know me and if will if i know im not doing anything at all about my hair...

Thank you, nizoral alone might do it for me then? 1% or 2%? if i can maintain what i have now ill be happy .

I now for sure that i had some thickening on my right temple after using oral min for a few months, so i might have some androgenic alopecia after all. When i was on dutas, my derm told me that he saw improvement, but the side effects were too much for me, so thats why im scared of taking the dht blocker route again with finasteride even at that small dosage, but i might give it a try.

will i have the same sides with topical minoxidil or no way to know?

You shouldn't have those problems with topical minoxidil. That plus Nizoral 2% should be enough to maintain for a while, maybe a couple years or longer if you're lucky.

Thank you, i will get rogaine foam and and nizoral 2% and see how that goes, will comment in a few months.

I hope im luckier with the possible sides this time...

Without pictures it's hard to give advice.

I don't mind it but I know what will happen, people will tell me to f*** off pretty much.

My right hairline is a bit higher, right now I would say in a Norwood 1.5 on that side. No thinning on crown I think, even tho I have short pointy hair and you can pretty much see the scalp all around under the sun . My doctor didn't comment on it as a sign of male pattern baldness tho.

In any case , even if I was balding more than I think, Its clear that I cannot take oral min or dutas, Sides where too much for me ...

I mean, you either have male pattern baldness or you don't. If you don't have a perfectly straight hairline, that doesn't mean you have male pattern baldness. It's actually normal for your hairline to recede a bit after puberty. We aren't supposed to have female, round hairlines.

Yeah like whatintheworld said, some minor recession is normal for most guys, unless your are trans and wanting to be a woman it shouldn't matter much having some minor recession. Post pics.

I started dutasteride treatment around February last year , taking it every other day , by September I had to stopped it because the sides were getting a bit too much, (Lower libido and unsatisfying orgasms or even painfull ones a few times in the last month or so, I was taking medication for anxiety too so that probably affected my libido a lot) then I started with minoxidil for four months and the sides were terrible, stopped last week. My hairline hasn't changed much or at all in two years even tho I think there is some clear erosion on my right temple , so there is definitely something going on there.

My derm told me that , I can also get same sides from foam minoxidil, so I don't wanna risk it at all , so my only options now are nizoral and try dutasteride again with lower dosage and see how that goes .

Dutasteride once a week along with ketoconazol shampoo 2% will do something for me? Or the dosage for dutasteride will be too low?

I upload some photos from both my temples and my crown

Hi. Yes you have very minor recession. If you are worried about it getting worse you could try finasteride. It will probably not regrow it.

Also, it’s normal to have one temple worse than the other. It catches up usually after awhile. I have the same thing.

Thank you guys, one more question, could this be a sign of my crown thinning? I have a huge cowlick (in fact I have two fighting against each other in that area) and my hair is quite pointy at the length I have it now , so under direct light it looks like you can see through the middle of my scalp in certain angles, it happens all over my head tho, even at the front, but harder to tell since my hair is longer and grows to the front instead of upwards, from behind you cannot see it at all. What do you guys think, it can happen just because the way my hair naturally grows ?

People I asked in person told me that it's all the same in all over my head, but I want some unbiased opinions

Photos taken after washing my hair with no styling or brushing at all and letting it dry by itself

Don't want to get neurotic about it, just want to clear that to decide if I wanna give duta another try or not, thank you
