Two years on finasteride

Well guys, its been two years since starting finasteride.

I do feel like it has helped to maintain my hair, shedding has been a regular issue but no real noticeable loss, at baseline my swirl was starting to thin although I don't think it has gotten any worse.

I regularly mention the side effects, but I put up with that, I pass water frequently and have a low libido, which is a plus point because at present I am single so its not a big deal.

I will post some photos at some point, more than likely when I go for a second hair transplant, this will be next year sometime.

All the best

Lucky

Please don't ignore your body. There are combination topical therapies which can give a reasonably comparable set of results as orally ingested Finasteride.

Is libido your only sexual side effect, or are there sensitivity problems as well?

Are sexual side effects common in finasteride?

It's the thing that's mainly turning me off using. If I thought I could use without experiencing any side effects I'd be happy to try, but its a niggling worry at the moment.

Is shedding common once on the treatment too?

The official information says that side effects aren't very common, 2 % if I remember correctly. I, and some other users on here, think that there is something fishy about the official information, though. A lot more than 2% of the users on here report side effects. This is to be expected, though, since people who have no side effects would be less likely to come here and post about their lack of problems. But if we look only at the posters who come here before they start treatment, we should get a more objective picture about side effects, and the incidence of side effects IMHO still seems a lot higher than 2%.

Even if the 2% is correct, there is still the problem of permanent side effects after quitting, which Merck never seems to talk about. The majority of users don't get this problem, but that doesn't help the few unlucky ones.

If I were to do this hair loss thing all over again (without knowing anything how my body would react to finasteride), I'd still try finasteride, but quit much earlier if I got side effects, instead of waiting for 6 months.

Shedding is common, yes, but it won't make you go bald, which is what happens without treatment.

Yeah I got the impression it was alot higher from what I had read also.

What are the permanent side effects? Have any been reported?

I'm even less sure about trying it now. Sexual side effects don't sound too appealing, especially since I've just started a relationship.

First impressions and all that...lol.

In my case the seemingly permanent (quit 7 months ago) effects are reduced libido and penis sensitivity. I only get minimal enjoyment from anything to do with sex. The "good" thing about it is that I no longer have any use for my hair (or looking good in general).

That doesn't really sound worth it.

How long did you continue medication while ignoring the side effects for it to get that way?

But you'd still advise trying it?

Woud you advise quitting as soon as any side effects come up?

What exactly do you mean by that? From the sound of it, it dosent sound like a good thing.

Yeah, its not as sensitive as before and thats when I can be bothered, it seems to numb all the sexual receptors imo.

No, I'm not married, and I doubt I'll ever be. I just meant that the main point of looking good is being sexually attractive, which isn't something I have a use for any more, since I'm not able to enjoy sex like before.
