Before I got on dutasteride, seeing my thinning hair under bright light would bother me very much, but since I've been treating my hair loss and noticed my hair's amazing improvement, I am no longer self-conscious of my hair at all. Dutasteride has, very literally, saved me from so much misery.

I often think to myself, thank God I was born in the 1980s rather than, for instance, the 1950s. If I'd have been born 30 years earlier than I was, I'd have begun balding at a time when 5-ar inhibitors didn't exist, and my life would have been dramatically different. My dad, for instance, was already a NW4-NW5 before finasteride was even invented. I consider myself lucky in this respect, and the rest of you should too.

My head of hair looks decently thick; however, if I go into a dark place with a bright light right above my head, then you'll be able to see my hair loss. I'm currently not too worried anymore though, the Dutasteride is so strong, it's like as if I don't have male pattern baldness. I know exactly what you're talking about Rudolphus, and I've only been taking Dutasteride for two and a half months.

I am glad that we're born in a time where there's actual treatment options. The truth is Rudolphus, even though we're extremely fortunate to be great responders to Dutasteride, it's not like that for everyone, and it's not an option for every individual. The fact that there's men who take Finasteride to treat their male pattern baldness and get side effects and/or don't respond to the medication, they can't continue with the treatment and just continue to lose hair, which is beyond devastating.

That's why finding cures would be the best option, since not every person can use medication to treat hair loss and/or other medical problems.

Dont get how you dont respond to finasteride it reduces dht2 by 90 percent the causse of hairloss? Correct me if im wrong here. I heard 9 out of 10 people benefit from finasteride through maintenance of if they are lucky regrowth. So youd have to be damn unfortunate for it not to work for you

Everyone responds, just to what extent. Always better with the medication than without e.t.c. The real test is how you are in a few years. Some people maintain for several years then start losing density.

finasteride is working very well for me currently and I don't have an aggressive pattern. I reckon my final pattern without meds would be crown thinning and Norwood 3 at the front. That in itself is amenable to transplants. Rest of my hair has not shown any sensitivity and I'll be 30 next year. male pattern baldness is unpredictable but for the majority of us you know your "final pattern" by your late 20's.

What I'm trying to say I guess is we will know how useful the 5 AR inhibitors are in the decades to come. But in trials it seems like we can deduce, the better the first year response, the better the long term prospects.

A 60 year old ex sportsman I know has a similar pattern to me and he goes by his late 20's his crown had only just begun to thin and he was a Norwood 2.5. Now without meds he has a hole in his crown and bit beyond 3 - that's how slow it was, still has pretty thick hair. Not bad at all tbh in the grand scheme of things.

I would like to second this. After two years of successfully using finasteride, I noticed that I was gradually losing traction - I switched to dutasteride and have began to experience thickening, darker hair and regrowth on crown/top of head - similar to when I first started using finasteride. Im only 3 months in so im excited to see what this year will bring!

I'm not even three months into taking Dutasteride and I can tell that my hair is already starting to thicken up.

I've never taken Finasteride, I went straight to Dutasteride. I have aggressive male pattern baldness and didn't want to risk to continue losing hair on Finasteride that would otherwise be maintained by Dutasteride.

Its all relative, those with sensitive follicles don't respond well. Those who are naturally slow regressors that hop on finasteride tend to have the best results. Aggressive male pattern baldness with or without medication will always be a upward battle for the inevitable.

There was a case of someone on bodybuilding who basically had miniaturised hair all on top, grew it all on finasteride, again this is rare though.

I agree with you. It's a myth that "diffusers respond better to meds than receders." The reason this myth exists is because diffusers have more miniaturised hair to work with so might get more initial growth but long term maintainers, I reckon receders will be ahead. Most of our hair is either currently untouched by male pattern baldness or just not that sensitive to DHT full stop. So finasteride/dutasteride will be more than enough for life. But early hair loss is pretty aggressive either way, receder or diffuser, but diffuser will have it worse still.

The pattern thing I heard from a surgeon is very true looking around at people around me. But it must be someone not using meds until their late 20's to analyse accurately.

Again there are exceptions as we know how unpredictable it can be. We all know of someone who started losing hair in their 40's but then rapidly went bald e.t.c.

The worst is in a pitch dark room and using your iPhone torch to inspect your scalp. Gives a depressing view of the future
