hi all,

i'm about to order some generic finasteride from united pharmacies and i'm wondering if it should be ok to have it sent via a courier. the site charges £20 for this service but they have to mark the packaging as medical goods and they say on the site that it may cause a delay when going through customs. i'm in the uk and i just wanna know if anyone else has had issues with customs. if i choose the normal delivery option it will take about a week longer and the order will be packaged discreetly. i only have a few days of finasteride left so at the most i'd probably go 2 weeks without. i don't think it's a big deal really, i'm just wanting to weigh up my options,

1. pay less, no bother with customs, go longer without any finasteride

or

2. pay more, should get delivered faster but may be delayed, go less time without finasteride

i really don't wanna get my finasteride seized by customs or anything, that would be a nightmare! yeah, so does anyone have any experience with this?

well I've ordered RU in the past and it's gone through customs and so i've even paid VAT on it. That was classed as a research chemical though, in terms of finasteride i used to order just under £18 worth to avoid detection, because it just wasn't worth paying the VAT and handling charge, it normally took 2 1/2 weeks.

I recently ordered 6 months worth of finasteride from United Pharmacies but it was held up in customs for ages. They won't seize it but you will have to pay a handling charge to Royal Mail and customs charge, which came to about £18 together. I didn't know this though. The time before that though i only ordered a month's worth and it got to me in 10 days.

If I were you, just order enough to get through customs without having to pay the extra fees then just order some more a few days after, and then some more a few days after that, etc etc. A few days or a week really won't make that much of a difference imo!

As always it's worth reminding you UKers that you can pick up generic finasteride for £1 per month (no typo) from your local pharmacy if you get a private prescription from your GP or from a specialist if your GP won't prescribe.

Go to your GP and say:
I would like a private prescription for finasteride to treat my male pattern baldness. The 1mg dosage is branded and really expensive so I would like to be prescribed the 5mg pills which I will quarter with a pill cutter - I believe this is common for people who are prescribed finasteride.

Cross your fingers (I was successful at this stage, so the stuff below is just speculation, but seems sensible to me). :)

Other ammunition to convince your doctor if they are uneasy about it:
1. Research the Boots Hair Retention Program (which would prescribe you Propecia). Let your GP know that if they don't prescribe it you could just get it via this route from Boots, but for a lot more money and you'd rather go through your GP.

2. If your GP still refuses, ask for a referral to a specialist who would consider prescribing it. You may have to then pay for a private consultation but it should still be worth it in the long-run (as generic finasteride costs nothing).

Good luck.
