I'm an 18 years old boy with a male baldness pattern, and I want to start using Propecia before it's too late, but I'm scared of the side effects of messing with my hormones. So, I'm thinking about using Propecia, but only 0.5 mg twice a week or something like that, keeping it really low just to try and maintain my hair the way it is, since I don't want to take the risk of screwing up my brain or my erections. I'd take breaks every year, and stop immediately if I notice any side effect.

It may just slow down the balding a bit, but I'm alright with that. What do you think? I guess you'll consider it ineffective, but I'm not trying to regrow or thicken my hair, I just want to low my DHT levels a bit and see how does that look on my hair. Just an experiment.

Man the whole debate around finasteride dosage is a total mind****. Been on One mg a day for year then every other day but I dont know what's best

I believe Spencer Kobren can have days without finasteride and he's one of the biggest finasteride proponents in the hair loss community.

I'm 24 with onset male pattern baldness ( I cought it kind of early and only have a thin crown and the start of a receding hairline) and have taken Finasteride 1mg daily for about 4 months now along with a Biotin supplement and here are my results with just those two things.

I've noticed that my hair is noticeably thicker, the shedding is maybe half as bad as it was before starting Finasteride, if that. My hair seems a bit fuller around the crown and the dormant hairs on my hairline seem to be growing longer which is a good sign. My temples are still thin but are only like half as bad as before from what I can see.

I'm now able to part my hair down the middle which I couldn't before (I have shoulder length hair) and as long as I cover the thin temples I could pass for having perfect hair.

I'm hoping my hairline keeps filling in and the dormant hairs start filling in a bit more or I'll have to say goodbye to my bangs and roll with a mature haircut which sucks. So far so good though.

My only problem/side effect was a slight ache in my balls that would happen every once in a while during the first 2 weeks or so. Ever since I've not noticed anything so it seems I'm in the clear. Finasteride/Propecia has been a lifesaver for me, it isn't the holy grail of hair regrowth but it has certainly frozen my hairloss as of so far and reactivated a few stagnant hairs around my hairline that haven't grown in over 2 years.

I suggest at least trying it, It's helped my self esteem tremendously, I still wear a hat usually but if the trend continues I will probably change that. I still have the same ejaculate, muscle mass, facial hair, etc, as I did before the drug. I did notice one odd thing though. My chest hairs (the few that I have on my belly lol) have gotten a bit thinner so it seems it may have reduced my body hair although I may just be overthinking things, regardless I don't care about that because it has helped the hair on my head which matters most.

Just try it at 1mg, I wouldn't suggest the half/quarter dosages people recommend on here because it's not smart to play with fire.

Also, I have heard great things about taking finasteride with Nizoral so I may try that in the future although I don't have oily hair to begin with so I usually just use tea tree conditioner to wash my hair as it's less harsh and seems to cause less shedding in the shower.

Also to prove a point I used to have at least 100+ hairs in the shower prior to month 3 on finasteride, now I am lucky to have 50 at most in the last few weeks and that is hard to argue with so clearly something has changed.

1 mg is the standard dose but going with less, such as .5 or .25 day has nearly the same (not the same, but close) effect as 1 mg. I don't think that starting with less is playing with fire. You can ramp up if you don't have a negative reaction. I would suggest that a lower dose everyday would be the way to start but would really be cautious about starting it at 18 as that is young to start messing with hormones. I am not trying to run down finasteride, cuz it worked for me and it was not until I quit that it f'ed me up. I would wonder if some other younger users can chime in.
