Under 18 propecia?

I am 16 years old and have just begun to notice the onset of male pattern baldness. Is there a particular reason why someone under 18 shouldn't be taking propecia? MBP generally occurs near/after the end of puberty, so is the risk of side effects really that much higher? I have seen a few threads where doctors have prescribed finasteride to patients as young as myself. Seeing as finasteride seems like the most convenient/most effective short term/most effective long term medication for MBP, if the risks were not much greater for younger patients I would gladly take it.

a maturing hairline is not male pattern baldness

If your loosing hair on the crown then i would consider the option of finasteride

but at 16 with just a maturing hairline i would not suggest using anything

I would not recommend it at your age (16), your endocrine system is still in development. At any rate, you would have a very difficult time finding a doctor who would provide it to someone your age anyway. But there are other options, you can see them here- viewtopic.php?f=11&t=63313

At 18 the endocrine system may still be in development. If it is considered fine to prescribe an 18 year old propecia, I do not see a significant difference for someone who is 16. My family doctor is willing to prescribe me propecia, although I want to see what others think of this before I start taking it.

I have lost hair on the crown as well as the temples. I have eliminated telogen effluvium due to the fact that most of my lost hair is miniaturized and lacks the bulb-shaped end of telogen hairs. Male pattern baldness seems to be the only possibility to explain this.

I would not recommend it at your age (16), your endocrine system is still in development. finasteride might be out but rogaine/nizoridil(sp) aren't.

i suppose a topical antiandogen might not be bad but those cost $$
