I've been taking 1mg of finasteride for the past 6 months and I see no improvement. In fact, I think it's getting a bit worse. It might all jus be in my head, but that's what it looks like.

Anyways, I've been wondering if I should take 2mg a day instead or 1mg.

Or would you recommend jumping into Dutasteride? What are the side effects of Dutas?

It's normal for there to be a possibility that hair gets a little worse before it starts to get better. Taking 1 milligram of Finasteride daily is sufficient enough for most men to maintain hair well.

Jumping to Dutasteride won't make a large difference, it is more effective than Finasteride, not by a whole lot, though it is a little better. Side effects of Dutasteride are similar to that of Finasteride, the difference is they could last longer since the drug has a much longer half-life.

Dutasteride 0.5mg daily is comparable to 5mg finasteride daily. It's much more potent and has a longer half-life, it inhibits both types of DHT up to 95%. In studies most users saw visible improvements after the 3 month mark.

I'd give it another 6 months on the 1mg dose of finasteride, IMO. I believe it is recommended to give it at least one year before deciding if finasteride is right for you. If you have any baseline photos compare how your hair looks like now to how it did 6 months ago. If you don't have any baseline photos then take some now and evaluate after every 30 days with new pics, for the next 6 months, to see how you are progressing. Taking pics of your hair is very important IMO because it shows you the proof you need instead of worrying if it's all in your head.
