I know you're supposed to shed when using minoxidil but what exactly is a shed? Is it just hair falling out? I'm using minoxidil on one temple and I can see more scalp and the hair seems thinner. Is it going to get better? Is this what everyone experiences?

the weaker hairs effectively get kicked out to make way for stronger ones :)

ripple how long have you been using minoxidil on the frontal region and what type? whats your Norwood/age if you don't mind. . .I ask because of my situation. I just started foam 3 days ago on hairline/temples and finasteride two weeks ago. I am scared shitless after many people posting on these boards and others that the foam ate their hairline and it never came back even after being on foam for 10+mos...Is this truly possible guys? I don't want to believe it but so many people have been experiencing this it seems.

Nm saw your regimen...
why liquid minoxidil at night? Why not just foam? Do you feel spironolactone has been affective as a topical? Can you get sides from topical spironolactone? just a semi-noob trying to keep his hair. TIA

ps im guessing only your left temple needs help. Also, call me stupid but i am having a hard time figuring out the days of your regimen...R?

i guess a shed is different for everyone? .. with me about 10 + sumtimes up to 20 hairs come out wen i put rogaine foam on. there all shorter hairs 1/4 of length of rest of my hair which is about 1.5 inches. i've been using the foam for 2.5 months and nizoral for 2 months and saw palmetto for 1 week, today i noticed the hair line hairs r luking longer :woot: and just about starting to grow maybe

If the weaker hairs get kicked out from minoxidil, then how does minoxidil know which hairs are weaker and which hairs are stronger. Is minoxidil selective to the hair follicle? Can anyone explain this? :dunno:

ive read story after story about foam eating hairlines. I started on foam on the hairline and am wondering if i should try a different type of minoxidil because of people saying they never got it back even after 10 mos of use.

ragsta---where are you applying and what type of minoxidil? vellus hairs?

R= Thursday - I will change that, it is kind of confusing.

I'm only using minoxidil on my left temple, and it does literally look like it's eating away. This is why I'm trying to understand what a "shed" really is supposed to be/look like. My hair doesn't look like it's shedding, but slowing dissolving. It's really pissing me off. That temple never responds positively to anything. I think I will stop (again) since you mentioned the foam eating other peoples hairlines and the hair never coming back  . I never saw anyone mention that otherwise I would not of tried it. The spironolactone cream seems to be maintaining so far. It doesn't seem to be helping the hair where I applied minoxidil too though. You can't get sides from topical spironolactone, although, I think I got headaches from it, but I'm not sure they were from spironolactone. All my results/observations from spironolactone are based on a one week experience. Give me more time to use it and I'll let you know how well it's been working. The rest of my hair looks thick, but I think I might need to stop finasteride b/c I think I'm suffering from brain fog on it....or is it just me ....I'm not sure. I'm posting a new topic on the subject in the Men's Gen Discussions(Might get moved to finasteride Fourm). It's something worth looking into.

hey ssp, i dont think it applies to me since my hairline is not receeding, just thinning all over the top with patches of more and thicker hair. Im 24 also. my temples are looking stronger but like the new hair seems real slow growing

Do only weaker hairs get kicked out? What about thick hairs? I'm shedding everything, thin and thick hairs. Does minoxidil kick out all hairs? Should I see the thick hairs come back right away since they don't/shouldn't need multiple cycles to thicken up?
