Ive been on a low dose of Valium a month now and my Propecia "side effects" Are gone. Getting on finasteride was a big deal to me and i was terrified of all the crap online. I now believe the stress, worry, and daily anxiety over something going wrong on Propecia caused a constant muscle tension and that caused my pelvic and lower back pain, and urinary symptoms And at its worst that pain was debilitating. Also ive quite reading any hair loss anything. Except of course to write this. This just shows the power of the mind. Im not saying this could be the case for everyone with side effects but it should probably be looked into as a cause for People's side effects. I now dose 1mg everyday except Tuesday and i have zero side effects. Good luck everyone -Anthony

DHT inhibition in the brain disrupts allopregnanolone production, a neurosteroid that has a powerful effect on GABA(A) receptors. Valium counteracts this effect but is far from healthy for your brain. Studies link long term benzo usage with many chronic diseases (specially Alzheimer) and benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome has been often reported.

Most antidepressants promote allopregnanolone production but they are serious drugs and may come with their own side effects. I would not recommend most of them for this purpose.

BTW there is a well-known homeopathic remedy called Gelsemium that has been reported to have allopregnanolone boosting properties in some experimental studies. It works pretty well for me though I am very sensitive to meds and I have no idea if it would work equally for anybody else. If anyone is interested just search for "gelsemium allopregnanolone" on Google.

I was paying you attention and giving you respect until you started peddling homeopathy.

I will not take it personally since I myself did not give homeopathy any credit for a long time. Here's the study anyway: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19628662

Let me say I am not a big enthusiast and I am not endorsing the use of homeopathy here. It just happens that I do not know any other herb/supplement with these particular properties.
Saffron or Curcumin may help too. They are the most researched natural antidepressants but I have seen no studies proving they increase allopregnanolone production.

Jesus this is why i left.... That was a good news post. Dht isnt disrupting anything. I have a anxiety disorder since 17. very low dose of Valium is good for me. My anxiety actually made me physicaly ill to the point i could not function and my mind was a 24/7 worry machine. The whole point was, it was not Propecia!! I had prostatitis symptoms from stress/Anxiety So relax everyone and rock that thick hair!

Sonic it's all science-backed information.

If you don't like it it's ok but it doesn't change the fact that finasteride reduced allopregnanolone in the brain in studies by as much as 300%.
Nor the fact that if you take valium long term even at low doses you can have a bad time withdrawing the drug.

I get no benefit from sharing this information, I just thought it might be useful for you but apparently I was wrong.

Everything will kill you. That coke you drink is probably worse than my tiny 2.5 mg of Valium for your health. Ive had terrible anxiety for 17 years. SSRI medications are poison to my body . Now there's some real side effects. I too have read all these Propecia studies, and most say its safe. Perfect, far from it. For me anyway i have zero Propecia side effects. My problem started because of worrying about things like this. My point was just anxiety could be the true problem for SOME people with Propecia side effects thats all. Im done worrying and getting on with my life. Im not being confrontational just, idk there s to much worry and hopelessness on this site for me right now. I wish you and everyone the best of Luck -Anthony

You can't have a 300% reduction.

You can't have a 300% reduction.

Right. I didn't have time to check that study but the 300 figure came to my mind and I posted it without much thinking.
Checking the mean values it should translate to something around 70%.

do you attribute your elimination of sides to the fact that valium has relaxed your pelvic floor muscles? or is it doing something else?

How did you end up getting prescribed valium? How did you realize that valium would be the answer? Random?

Id researched everything about pelvic floor issues and in particular anxiety and pelvic floor issues and since i have generaliled anxiety disorder it all made sense. That said i now have zero finasteride side effects and only take a quarter of a valium about every other day now

Propecia is backed by more science and the overall science says its a very safe drug.

I was researching on this topic and stumbled upon a study showing that Diazepam (Valium) increases 5ar activity (highly) significantly in rats:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/477622
This study also puts caffeine in the same category... I Wouldn't worry about a morning cup of joe, nor very low dose of valium
