Very odd thinning

Hi all. I'm new here and have a question.

I've noticed in the last year or so that a small patch, maybe an inch or so in diameter right on my front hairline where I part my hair (on the left side) has thinned a little. It doesn't appear to be typical male pattern baldness, and I'm not sure what it could be. Is this normal hair loss?

For the record I'm 39 and have always had a good head of hair. Any insight is much appreciated.

you say it doesn't seem like male pattern baldness so maybe you're right - could be Telogen Effluvium or something.

however the "thinning right at the centre front of the hairline" thing is certainly one common pattern of male pattern baldness. so its difficult to say either way. probably best to see a gp/derm.

Telogen Effluvium -- okay thanks. I'll look into that and have a chat with my gp.

The thinning isn't taking place at the centre front -- it's only take place on the left side where my hair is parted, at the very front of the part. Does that make any difference?

i'm not an expert, but basically if the thinning pattern is just that - a pattern, with symmetry, then its more likely to be male pattern baldness. however if its patchy and random, then its more likely to be somthing else like Telogen Effluvium or other forms of baldness (not the common male baldness).

maybe you think the thinning is only on the left becuase you only see it when you part your hair. if not, and your hair really is thinning in a specific place, then non-male pattern baldness factors are more likely - IMO.

Don´t lose a second. You´ll regret later if you get lazy and forgot about the date w the derm. Remember that is much easier to prevent than to repair.

It doesn't look like male pattern baldness at all. I had my barber look closely and he only sees marginal thinning at the front left where my part begins.

But like you say, I'm not going to take chances and lose any time. I'm off to see the dermatologist next week.

I know I can buy Rogain without a prescription up here in Canada. Should I just buy some now before I see the Doctor?
