Hi!

So I'm 20 years old now and first noticed the shedding start 2 summers ago. I didn't do anything about it until recently... and unfortunately I lost a lot of hair in a 4 month span about 8 months ago. But last summer I took Propecia for 3 months. There was a month after that which I stopped, and yesterrday I began taking Proscar. I also just started applying Xandrox 5% w/o PPG once in the morning and once at night daily. And lastly, I use Nizoral shampoo a few times a week.

The damage done so far is bad but I'm hoping it's still salvageable. Male pattern is very common on my Mother's side of the family, but I really would like to put the shaved head look off for another 2 or 3 years.

I will probably report back in a few months to let everyone know how the finasteride+minoxidil+nizoral combo works out.

Here's 5 months ago (pre-Propecia):

Well, that's it. I'm glad there's a nice community for us oh so unfortunate souls out there.

I would appreciate any and all comments :)

Actually I use NIzoral already. I really like it. Makes my scalp feel less itchy and somehow makes my hair look less thin too.

I've never heard about Dermatch or Toppikk before but they look promising for the thinning I have between the crown and hairline. Thanks! :)

Well, on my Mom's side: Uncle age 24, bad balding, especially at crown and hairline, started early 20s. keeps shaved head.
Uncle age 27, also bad, started mid 20s. keeps shaved head.
Uncle age 40, little to no hair left. keeps shaved head.
Grandfather, nice and smooth

My father on the other hand still has most of his hair, into his 50s.

Definitely an uphill battle here. I'm hoping to fight it out for another 3-4 years.

judging by the handfull of pictures you have posted, it looks very much like you could pull off the buzzed hair look. your skin is clear, you have darker complexion and your head is normal if not below normal size.

if you had to go bald...... you'll be alright. get into the gym and get buff.

Because I ran out and didn't care enough to get more until recently.

2 weeks of Big 3 update:

Good things: Hair's looking better! Dermatch is really good at making hair look thicker. minoxidil 2x a day has been easy.

Bad things: Dermatch makes my hair shed A LOT more than it usually does. I think Gyno's getting worse (I'm overweight already)

I'm going to stick to the regimen and hope that I can exercise and diet these things off. If not, I might go for the surgury in January. Anyone been through that?

as to the dermmatch, not sure how it works as i havent used it before. BUT people always seem to claim more shedding the longer their hair gets. this is usually due to them noticing the hairs more as they are larger. with dermmatch, it probably holds more shed hairs to your head, hairs that would have typically fallen out unnoticed by you. then when you shampoo or run your hand through your hair, they all come out at once, giving the appearance of more hair being shed.

I agree with what powersam said, your shedding has simply become more noticable due to your dermatch. On your pics you show some good maintenance though you should post better ones of your crown to make a final judgement.
