We need to be happy we live in 2007.

I was thinking, our generation at least has a shot at stopping male pattern baldness, so why do we whine so much? We should be happy, think about it, with the gene thing we may have a real cure in like ten years or less. Previous generations only had old wives tales and snake oil, but now we have a shot.

So what if we have to be bald for a few more years, things are just getting better and better anyway.

I'm shaving and waiting.

I somehow agree, this is the best age for going bald ever. I am thankful for that, a few decades ago I probably would have killed myself.

It's good to see positive people like you. Hell yeah we are lucky, check out the balding guy from the beach boys during the 60ies. I'm sure he wished he had Rogaine.

We're damn lucky that those product exists. Also we're lucky that the internet and this forum exist, otherwise maybe I would never have started those treatements.

Yeah, thought about this a few days ago as well. If I had started going bald in 98,99 when I didn´t have Internet I would have been lost as well in spite of the treatments being on the market. Jesus, I am so damn lucky!

I agree that we are lucky to have the hopes up potential cures for hair loss in our lifetimes. But I'd also add that as a culture, interest in appearance, and particularly in how men look, has increased dramatically in recent decades. I'm sure many balding men were bothered by their hair loss in the 1950s. But I get the sense that it wouldn't have bothered them to the same degree, or at least it may have had less impact on their lives, than for a balding man alive today. So in that sense it's both a lucky and an unlucky time.

There is still no cure yet sadly. For a NW6 to get a full and thick head of hair the only option is STILL a wig just like it was in the 60's. There are options but nothing to be estatic about. Perfection of Gene therapy and HM is going to take years if not decades. However our kids and their kids should be just fine...

However this information DOES NOT help me today or in the near future. My concern is that I am in my prime and that the "golden years" will be spent balding. Who cares if there is a cure when I am 60, I wouldn't give a rat's ***...

Yeah maybe there's still no hope for a NW6, but at least the shaving option has become acceptable. No need to try and compensate the lack of hair on top by growing the sides out...

For me this is the REAL reason why I could be happy that I am losing hair in 2007. Shaved head is totally accepted and with great suit, it is much much much more easier to look good or decent at least.

30 or even 20 years ago, shaved head has not been accepted so easily (if at all) and I remember that even during my time at basic school (ten years ago or more), everyone with shaved head has been considered as skinhead.

Despite some pessimism here, I know there is a chance male pattern baldness will be stopped. I've been losing it since I was 15 and kept my ground. I'm considering shaving too. It may take time, but it will be well worth it. I need to save up and get life on track (which I have, I have one year left in college).

I agree, it's pretty remarkable that we happen to live in the first time in human history where baldness isn't a foregone conclusion. I mean, finasteride is about as close to a miracle drug as we could hope for, at least for a while. And thank god for the internet, or else I would have given up. Because we all know derms know jack s*** about hairloss :D

You're joking aren't you Taug? You would rather kill yourself than live a healthy life but be bald? Are you having a laugh mate?

Like I mentioned in the other threads the first thing you need to do is to get out there and meet people! Women ain't gonna come knocking on your door! You need to get out there and find them! How about hang out with your sister and her friends?

2007 is the same as being 500BC as far as haiorloss is concerned .

HM is about 30 years off in my opinion, transplants are still nowhere near as good as a full head of hair and propecia and avodart are pathetic.

The only thing that has improved is the quality of hair peices

She is living in another town, soon she will head to Scotland for 6 months. I have given it up.

I agree, but finasteride and dutasteride still are better than nothing..... As sad as it may be

Oh hey, just thought of something else, imagine how hard it would be shaving your head even 100 years ago, not to mention even further back. Now we just get a clipper and go to town, yay? YAY!! :freaked2:

The big reason to be happy we're living in 2007 is the widespread acceptance of male baldness as normal and even attractive in many cases. Hair is a cosmetic preference these days.

I'm so happy I live in the US in 2007. Some laws here are dumb, but I have not got in trouble for breaking them yet.

Funny. That is when I really started receding. I had a high hairline before then, but it must have been climbing slowly until about 99 or so.
