Wearing A Skin System In This Heat - How To Keep Cool?

There are days that I just want to rip the damn thing off! Literally just now I had to go upstairs, lift up the front half of my system and sit under a fan for 5 minutes. The relief was immense, just letting the heat escape from my scalp.

It's only 25 degrees in the UK but the humidity is high. Next week I'm on holiday with the temperature predicted to hit 38 degrees. This will be unbearable.

I love a skin system and the ease of maintenance, but it isn't the greatest when the weather is like this.

Have you got any tips for trying to keep cool while wearing a skin system?

You may just need to have different systems for different seasons. I don't wear a system currently, but I live in a very hot desert climate - temps hit about 44 C today. If i can ever get over my anxiety of wearing, I'd probably wear lace in the hottest months and skin in the others.

I personally don't see the huge appeal of skin. It doesn't last as long as lace, and you get a realistic look, as well. I guess maybe the issue for some, are the knots?

Hi BB

Skin is so easy to maintain, that's the main draw for me. The glue rolls off without having to use isopropyl, the bond remains good for 7 - 10 days (could last longer but I don't make it).

The system lasts me several months. The previous one 5 months and current one (now that I know how to take care) is nearly 6 months and still going strong.

I'm a low maintenance guy and I typically spent an hour every 2 weeks on refits. If I found the hair to be a hassle then I wouldn't do it. And my fear is that lace would be a real hassle (for me).

I read so many posts about how messy the glue is to clean off lace, and how time consuming it can be. Like there is a post (I think on Norwood) where someone says they have to soak the base in C22 for 24 hours! That is ridiculous. And then glue seeps into the hair and that becomes a mess etc. I know this doesn't apply to a lot of people - but I fear it would cause me a lot of stress to try lace.

I have thought about poly/skin perimeter with lace middle/front. Perhaps that is the way to go for me.

The other major challenge for me is that there isn't a salon nearby that can do the fitting. I don't mean the haircut, I mean cutting the base to the right size and doing the initial fitting. The salon I use only UTS and the woman who does my hair is an absolute master (mistress?) at it - but she is affiliated to TCP and so will not work on any other suppliers' systems.

But I write this (quite verbose) reply because I do want to try lace one day. And I do agree that the hairline would be more realistic.
