Hello Everyone! Ive been here for probably 5 years but have never posted. A little background:
38 years old, I have a 33 year old brother who went absolutely completely bald immediately after high school. He has shaved his head with a razor ever since. My dad is 65, and is a classic balding but good looking man.(think Ernest Hemingway) We are of Dutch/German ancestry, so we are blonde. Although my dad had black hair. my hair has always been baby fine, but I had alot of it. For the last 15 years I actually slicked it back with pomade. Cant do that anymore.I started taking GNC mens Ultranourishair about a decade ago.
I knew my hairline has been receding slowly but surely, But it seemed to kick into hyperdrive after my messy divorce 5 years ago.I also knew that my crown was thinning. But when combed you couldnt tell too much. I could feel it, but I wasnt THAT concerned about it because I felt lucky. I cant totally blame it on the divorce because i was at that age when male pattern baldness begins to show up. Alot of us unfortunately know how your wife leaving you can make you question yourself and impact your self esteem. And it most certainly did that.i chased women to show myself I still had it, but ended up feeling empty and lonely.
When all this started I tried Rogaine which made my face swell , and my eyes blacken. It also seemed to mess up my growth phases, Its just a theory, but it seems like it all sheds and then all regrow ever since. I stopped using it.
In the last 3 or so years in winter my scalp starts to sting and I get a big shed. It terrifies me, but a few weeks later ill get 100s of bumps which turn into prickly hairs all over, and eventually its seems to thicken back up. Not like it once was, but manageable. I think each time I grow back less. I always tried to figure out whether it was plain old male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia. So recently I stumbled on a Thread about burning scalp where a Chiropractor chimed in and said stopping all supplements cured his. I tried it and it stopped my sting. It also cured digestion problems that I have been dealing with for 2 years. I believe all my supplements were robbing my body of acid.
I was dealing ok enough, I knew i was thinning on my crown.I could feel it. But it was manageable. I honestly have avoided mirrors and reflections. I hate to wash my car. I put a hat on to shave. As long as I dont have to look at it I feel pretty good about myself. Then a few weeks ago my uncle walks behind me and say,"OH NO!AHAHAH" So I turn to look at him quickly and he says,"nothing" But I knew what he was joking about. It sent me into a little depression, Ill be honest.
I dont really know what got into me this morning, but I went and grabbed a mirror and looked at my bald spot . I still cant believe I did after all these years. It was visibly thin. Not bald yet, but noticeable. And not far away.
So I listened to Spencer Kobren this morning on Propecia and decided to do it. I ordered it online. After weighing the pros and cons and trying to decipher who is full of it or just a hypochondriac.I dont have the money to go to the doctor or even get a baseline blood test. But I can afford 3 months worth and I did it.
I tried to keep this short because I lose interest in a LOOOONg post im trying to read, but I found out its hard to do. Ill end this post with my regimen up until now and im looking forward to hearing everyones thoughts. I know going around a dr is bad. But I have to act fast.Feel free to give me your .02. Thanks for reading
And there wont be a baseline photo. I cant bring myself to do it.

GNC Mens Ultranourishair (12 years) Until I realized stopping it helped my burning scalp!
Nizoral 2-3x a week (for the last 8 years)
Assorted vitamins (trace mineral drops/ Saw Palmetto/Fish oil/etc)

No problem if you're uncomfortable sharing photos of your baseline. I take it you have already had your hair loss properly diagnosed by a qualified physician/specialist? If so I think you're making the right decision. Remember visible results alone don't necessarily dictate the product's overall efficacy. Give it time (8-12 months + /-}keep us updated from time to time when you want. During my divorce I too questioned myself. Even though we never reconciled and to this day I am still "in mourning" so to speak, eventually I grew to understand that I alone had to change my perception of myself and the world around me in order to change my behavior pattern(s}. Thanx for sharing and all the best.

Thanks for the reply friends. I know I need to take a baseline photo, but I just cant bring myself to do it.
No I havent had my hairloss properly diagnosed. I dont even have a Dr . But with a bald brother and Dad and me pushing 40, its easy to see. Its been creeping for years.
I had a meeting with a prospect last night and my scalp started sting and burning as soon as I got there.I knew without a doubt it was anxiety causing it!
I have been on Prozac since my divorce and it worked well. So my choices are get back on prozac(we have a mental health center for low income here I used) and HOPE my hair rebounds some ,if any. Or get on Propecia and stay on it for a year to see if I start to get results. Or just do both.Which Is another option.
They say to weigh the risks and benefits, and I have been forever. Are you on finasteride ID WALKER as ISISHEARMYPLEA ? Can you guys both tell me if you had any reservations about starting and what your experience has been so far? Id like to hear it.

Went ahead and started Prozac again. 2/12/13 I figure my mental health is more important than my hair.
Still waiting on finasteride to arrive.

Well. the Prozac didnt agree with me. Had some serious mood swings and was hyper. Therapist says that my chemistry may have changed over the years and we should go with something else. But the 2 days on it perked me up enough and lifted me out of the depression. That and making some real decisions about my future helped put me more at ease.It was long overdue.
In better news, I have been on finasteride for 2 weeks now. The first week I had the strangest sensation. It was like I had nothing downstairs.I could not feel the bells from the whistle. It all felt like one area of nothingness. Scary I must admit. But I thought on it and waited another week and it returned to normal over the last few days. Also, I had sex last night and that was going to be the determining factor, but I performed like I always have and no problems with anything. I admit I was a little nervous about the sex, but told myself not to let my nerves affect my erection.
The best part of starting finasteride is that my scalp has stopped itching! My scalp feels normal again.Still not sure if its mental or not, but I have no more itch. And there's a little bit of relief knowing that I am doing ALL that is possible medically to save my hair and if its not enough then it cant be helped.
Thanks for stopping by.!

Hey Scorcher glad to hear all is well with the propecia! I'm thinking of buying it on-line as well than go to my doctor. How much do you take, 1mg/day? Is it real propecia or generic? Thanks!

Ive been on .625 (5mg Cut into 8 pieces) for 6-7 weeks now. 4 days ago I decided to throw in the towel on finasteride. I wasnt able to maintain an erection last week for the first time in my life. I will not chance this. I also have no sex drive. As in id rather come up with excuses than have sex! Not cool.
I thought long and hard if it was mental, and it could be, but even masturbating i lose my erection. Thats never happened before and ive had comments before from women that the thing is hard as steel. Im officially out. I could hang in there and see if it corrects itself, but im not comfortable taking the chance.
Im about to restart rogaine along with my nizoral, and I read a great post in the success stories with a guy saying he had maintained with spironolactone.
