Hi

I do not like take Propecia (because of the side effects). So what are the other options for me, to block DHT?

What i found so far

1)Spironolactone
2)Azelaic acid
3)Nizoral

From what i read on this forum none of the above give very good result.

Is there any other options for me?

Thanks

spironolactone doesn't act against DHT, but testosterone, I think. Azeleic acid is IMHO a very dubious product which doesn't have much to support its claims. Nizoral allegedly has mild anti-androgenetic and hair stimulant products. This clicky clicky! study indicates that in terms of efficacy it is broadly comparable to minoxidil.

You might want to try fluridil, about which the science and studies *sound* impressive, but which is a bit expensive, and which people haven't really been gushing over.

What were your symptoms? If it was an allergic reaction, dutasteride might be the answer...

Thank you for the info.

I never took Propecia. I just know that it causes pretty crappy side effects.
So far I only use minoxidil 5% for 3 month I have some good results with it. I got Nizoral today, so will use it too. I might try fluridil.

It causes sides in 2% of subjects, according to the Merck trials. If you think that's too much of a risk, then fair enough, but if I were you I'd at least try it. Its half-life is low. If you get any side effects, you can stop and be back to normal quickly. I think an internal, beit finasteride, or dutasteride, is essential to any regimen for it to succeed in the long run.

Spironolactone is an androgen receptor blocker (or "antiandrogen"), so it helps block all androgens like DHT, testosterone, and others.

Ketoconazole, the active ingredient in Nizoral, also has antiandrogenic properties.

Fluridil is supposedly an antiandrogen, too, but it has yet to be tested by an independent group.

Azelaic acid doesn't have antiandrogenic properties, as far as I know. It's purported to be a 5a-reductase inhibitor, but even that claim is doubtful. It's never been proven to work that way in vivo.

I think you mean Saw Palmetto, but it doesn't work, sadly.
