Hmmm I seemed to have lost you. I saw your answer as tar and ketoconazole and lost the site. Did you have psoriatic plaques elsewhere and are they severe? This can cause terrible itching. There are any number of topical and oral meds. Clobestesol oinment, Caliciprene ointment. Internals: Humera, Stellara, Soritane, Otezla and others. The plaques can go to elbows, knees, back, nails, scalp, and other body parts. If this begins see if your doctor can start you on a low dose preventative maintenance and it takes most of these meds 3-6 months for effectiveness. If the psoraisis goes full blown like mine did. You will be miserable. And yes I meant 5 mg, I was thinking 5ml aquarium water testing.

how old are you
Whom were you asking? Me? 59. How old are you? My doctors said a good percentage of my Cancer survival was attributed to my fitness and strength and responding well to just about any treatment. Including the latest, year of Finasteride treatment for prostate and hair loss.

I lost you so there is a reply for you a couple posts down about the psoraisis. Sometimes you have to treat the underlying cause if your topical shampoos aren't working. How long have you been on them?

I have been on ketoconazole for more than a year! And coal tar for about 4 months! No i don't have it on any other part and i am not even sure whether it is psoriasis or sebhorrseb dermatitis

Psoraisis has itchy dime size scab-like lesions called plaques. They are usually smaller on your head, larger if you have them else where. They range in red to a silvery color. Google a picture. They are not certain if it is genetic or environmental. People in low sun areas have flair ups or also thought to spark up by illness or stress. Treatment is by Vitamin D ointment, light box treatments and or internal medications. It is an accelerated growth and die off of skin. It is not transmittable.

I replied to one of your questions. But I don't see it on this thread. The psoriasis adds a different perspective. I too had severe psoriasis on my scalp and elsewhere, also severe hair loss due to anti depressants. Soriatane stopped working, but Otesla kicked in at 6 months or less and cleared the plaques everywhere including scalp, but doesn't work for everyone. I also Neutrogena Shampoo alternating using Seltzen Blue. These were my dermatologist's recommendations. I finish off with a Biotin based conditioner.
*** I take 5 ml Finasteride for a prostate condition, but it also doubles as a hair growing agent. Incoming fuzz at 3 months. Strong but thin coverage at 6 months with new hair growing in. 10 months pretty much all back. 12 months back to thick wavey normal head of hair. I also used 10 ml Biotin tabs orally to go with the Finasteride.
I'm assuming when you say 5ml you mean 5mg right?

Yes, 5 mg. I had my aquarium water tester still on my brain. It is 5mls in my pH water test tube, and then the smart phone took over & placed 5ml whenever I put in 5mg--but you meant 5 mls, that's what you wrote before. People have been pointing that out. Sorry about the Senior moment.
Finesteride 5 mg !!! I am not sure there is way I can recall the post to edit and make the correction. I may be destined to apologize for that little mistake into infinity. Sorry for the confusion reyl.

As you probably know dermatologist s like you to take some time with a medication, and some meds take time for full effect. My regimen during a full psoriatic flair up was 5mg Soritane 5mg Otezla (systemic oral meds) and Neutrogena T-Gel, which is a tar shampoo alternating with Seltzen Blue. What helped most was when the doctor removed Soritane from the picture. Immediate improvement on all fronts. Scalp and body plaques. According to my doctor the Otezla only works on a small percentage of people and I apparently was one of them. Like I said earlier there are other systemic medications Humera, Stellera and other new ones.
*** If you are in discomfort and your present regimen is not working then maybe it is time for a change.
The physical discomfort and mental self consciousness can be pretty agonizing. And I don't agree with some saying that you have it good or easy.
***When I was suffering, itching, peeling, flaking badly, I didn't want to go out in public. I was at Walgreen's and elderly lady cashier called me Lizard Man. Nice huh? I considered talking to her manager but I just chuckled and said " Hey that's a good idea for Halloween, I won't have to do much make up will I. " Even though I was seriously pissed off. It helped that the lady behind me in line gave me a sympathetic smile. I thought about going back and telling her how bad she made me feel but I am not interested in making people feel bad. It is more noble to help people. But some people should be aware of stigma attached to our condition. When mine was bad, people would recoil from touching me as in a money exchange. So stick to your guns and it is your body and life. Your doctor took an oath do you no harm and that means to heal you. There are maintainance or prophylactic dosages of the systemic medications that prevent condition worsening and encourage improvement. 8 months ago I was in pretty bad shape on several fronts. So I feel for you.
