i think this topical solution has been doing more negative to my hair than positive. Im gonna stick to oral finasteride cause in the past month and a half the shedding has been crazy.

my current regimen:
topical finasteride 5 times a week
oral finasteride (1mg) 3-4x a week
minoxidil every night

my hair has gotten a bit more diffused since starting, idk if its actually thinning or if im shedding way too much. I dont wanna use the topical solution anymore because i dont feel it brings any benefits, what do you guys think? is it stupid to stop the topical finasteride almost 2 months in?

Your topical finasteride has minoxidil mixed in right? Your using that in conjunction with regular minoxidil and oral finasteride?

yeah, i apply my topical finasteride mixture and then apply minoxidil foam right after, i dont see why it would cause a problem? i actually think it might help carry the topical finasteride mixture into my scalp.

i do admit, for the first month i put an outrageous amount of topical finasteride when applying, maybe like 3 ml a night. But now im more careful with it, but my hairs been not so good lately and its the only new thing ive been doing.

Just asking not sure if that can cause any problems. Maybe just a shed you've only been on it 2 months and you've already been on oral finasteride for awhile so I can't see why it would just speed it up simply because you apply it topically. Are you using kirkland foam btw?

took a break off finasteride for a solid 2-3 months, lost everything i maintained and then some, im back on finasteride for about a month and a half now, full 1mg this time around, i should have waited to start the topical.

yeah i use kirkland foam man, honestly the topical finasteride mixture was also making my scalp flakey, something thats never happened to me before, i think im just gonna drop it.

i dont know about you but i have used both topical finasteride, and topical spironolactone - both worked really really good...
i was using them alone (i mean with minoxidil, but not with oral finasteride or smth) ...

i think that topical is really the way to go and it doesnt have to go systemic..
these drugs have low molecular mass,
which means they go through the skin..
which means they do their **** locally..
which means supress DHT at the SCALP..
more than in your balls and blood ...

i know that while i was on it i had no shed at all..
only minoxidil, before, and after (using topical finasteride/spironolactone) wasnt stopping shedding completely ....

you know for a fact it was the topical finasteride that was working?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can anyone clarify how exactly could topical finasteride work without sides?

Just as rcom440 pointed out earlier in this thread, I suppose you need finasteride to go systemic to work? It blocks 5AR instead of DHT itself. If your 5AR is only suppressed locally, it doesn't prevent DHT from other part of your body from reaching the scalp via blood flow. And of course that's totally my personal speculation. If you need it to go systemic there WILL be sides.

But hey you guys are reporting a lot of success stories without sides! Anybody to give a convincing theory? Reports/studies to back it up?

(Or maybe I should just try it myself and remain silly+happy if it does work without sides for me!!)
