What do you think of low-dose finasteride?

Effectiveness is probably difficult to calculate due do individual aggressiveness of hairloss. Anecdotally, some men keep losing hair on 1 mg finasteride as well. Some have stopped hairloss with 320 mg Saw Palmetto. But I agree, since Saw Palmetto cuts DHT by 30 percent or show, perhaps a dose of finasteride that cuts similar percentage would show same results .

I wonder if super doses of SP would reduce DHT significantly more or if its returns diminish a lot. Any studies on this??

I remember if you visited a hairloss forum back in the early 2000's there were dozens of threads mentioning it and loads of peoples regimen's included saw Palmetto, over the years the people advocating it disappeared and its use kind of fizzled out. So im guessing in real world use they never got it to work. To me it always came across as one of the 'cope's of that time, but if anyone did have results or any long term success on it, it would be interesting to know.

I chatted with a few people on reddit that stopped hairloss using Saw Palmetto but no studies just anecdotes.

I doubt it. IIRC the study showed 30 percent DHT reduction after 6 months of 320 mg Saw Palmetto daily. It is weaker than finasteride.

"only 38% ofpatients treated with Serenoa repens had an increase in hair growth, while 68% of those treated with finasteride noted an improvement. Moreover finasteride was more effective for more than half of the patients (33 of 50, i.e, 66%), with level II and III alopecia"

Not as effective for sure. IDK if there are other studies.

Interesting stuff, thanks. If it cuts serum dht by 30% or so the equivalent finasteride dose would be extremely low (somewhere between 0.02mg-0.04mg per day I think). I wouldn't be surprised if that shows similar results to Saw Palmetto. Which to me seems to reinforce the idea that (very) low doses of finasteride can work for some/to a degree, assuming all of this is valid and that some people do indeed experience maintenance on Saw Palmetto.

All of this is mostly theoretical though, anyone who's serious about stopping their hair loss will probably start at 0.2mg daily at least, unless they've caught it very early and can afford to experiment.
