What Do You Think Of The Regimen My Dermatologist Recommended?

I finally saw a dermatologist today that seemed relatively well versed in hair loss, which was very refreshing considering my recent visit to a hair restoration clinic where I was told laser therapy and PRP were my best options.

The dermatologist did agree that I had mild bilateral temporal recession (I'm guessing I'm a NW2-3). But the rest of my hair seems to be in pretty good shape.

He recommended that I do the following:
- Minoxidil 2x/day
- Biotin supplement

He said it was too soon for me to start finasteride because of the potential sexual side effects and that we can reevaluate in a year after following the above routine. Because I just started dating again, I'm ok with holding onto my libido for a year. I know it's not a guarantee that I'll lose it, but still.

But I do I think I'm going to add
- Nizoral 2x/week
- Derma roller or derma pen 1x/week

Which derma roller/pen do you recommend I purchase? I'm a little lost in that regard.

Given my situation (see photos), how well do you think this regimen will work for me? Should I add anything else?

you are 28 with a nw2 hairline and no thinning, seems like it hasn’t been aggressive. i think his recommendation is solid. you usually see result in 3-6 months on minoxidil and it mainly helps with regrowth, but it does cause shedding before you can see the regrowth. biotin helps with the strength of your hair (and nails lol) so it's a nice supplement for the regrowth you get from minoxidil (if you get any at all) but its effects are limited. You might as well throw in some multivitamin for men, you will see it also contains biotin.

If I were you I would keep a close eye on your hair and take pictures every month. Dry hair, wet hair, under the sun, with a strong flashlight from every angle. If for any reason the hair loss becomes aggressive I would suggest you talk to your doctors and see if you can hop on the finasteride treatment asap.

If not, get evaluated by your doctor in a year. Do your research on finasteride in the meantime and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

It appears your loss isn't really agressive. So finasteride alone should cover you alone pretty well. Minoxidil is a pain in the *** so if i were you I would just hop on finasteride. Chances of you getting side effects are very low. Even if you do you can just quit the drug and start minoxidil.

Exact same scenario as you but I also have light diffuse thinning. The derm prescribed Rogaine and said that I should wait a year to see results and know if finasteride is necessary.

I wish I had such hairloss .... :'(

Huh?

My checkup is coming up in June. It will be interesting to hear his recommendation. Either way, I think I’m going to go ahead and get a dermaroller.

Just got a haircut. Still on minoxidil, nizoral and biotin regimen. Going to start derma-rolling. Check up with dermatologist is in June, will re-evaluate for finasteride.
