What Dosage Of Propecia Should I Start With?

Hi All,

got prescribed 1 mg finasteride tablets to take once per day. I feel like I have seen things on here about .5mg working the same, is this true?

It would be to save a little money (dr would not prescribe proscar as she was afraid I would not be able to cut it as small as 1 mg) and also to avoid sides.

Thoughts?

Taper on slowly, like start with .25 mg for a month. You want to minimize shocks to your endocrine system.

Be aware that finasteride can accelerate hairloss in some men. I think this related to dosage. If you look at the dose response curve it kinda flatlines from .5 mg and it's a steep drop below that dose. So, yes, .5 mg is fine and might actually work better for you. More is not necessarily better for some people.

As someone who has had a nightmarish experience with finasteride I always recommend people starting low.

Start with 1 mg in my opinion . I've been on it for 2 months now and that's how I started. I read about all the weird theories on here and I don't think it's worth it.

Keep in mind 1 mg is already a very small dose compared to men who took it for prostate , so you most likely will not get sides
