What is going on with my scalp?

Since the summer I've been having some issues with my scalp and I think its causing more thinning.

My scalp itches and on top of that if I scratch I get this hard yellow/white gunk balls under my nails. Its not like dry skin dandruff flakes (appears I have that too), but like a fatty substance. I'm also getting scalp pimples on the back of my head, which pop if I scratch and scab over.

Any treatment for this? Even if its not contributing to my hair loss (though I think it is since some of this gunk has multiple hairs attached to them), it can't be helping.

One derm said its fungal infection, but I'm not sure since I've been using nizoral 2 times a week for like 3 years, so that doesn't seem to treat it.

first dont scratch. second stop nizoral because it might aggrevate your flaking. third shave your head if its possible and try some tee tree oil or shampoo that should help

Will that get rid of this gunk? It's like balls of oil but then there are hard sand like particles too. It's weird because I've been thinning on top for years and this came out of nowhere just this summer. Unrelated maybe but it's driving me crazy.

I used to get the same stuff. Was a little stinky too.
Oddly enough, nizoral helped make it go away for me. What kind of shampoo do you use? A lot of men don't know this, but if you use women's shampoo it has certain oils and other ingredients that make hair look "shiny" which for men just clog things up and expedite generation of sebum, use menthol men's shampoo and scrub that scalp.

Nixion. But I've used that for years. So I'm not too sure. In fact have had oily hair for as long as I can remember. I can't go 24 hours without showering. This gunk is a new occurance though.

Did you get the hard sand like particles too? Reminds me of sand or salt.

I have not had any sand like particles. I shower every day as well, sometimes twice a day depending on what I did that day. After a couple of hours my scalp would be itchy/irritated and I'd scratch it a little bit, getting that yellowish gunk. Had lots of pimples on my scalp that freakin' hurt, but I'd mess with them incessantly till they scabbed.

Never any hard particles like that though.

P51, if your scalp has been dry for a long time and the nizoral hasn't been working, it may be a form of Psoriasis. I would definitely get a second opinion because there are plenty of treatments. You may also want to change out your shampoo for a while and see if that makes a difference.
