What is up with my hairline?

20 years old, not sure whats really going on here (the front). The left part of my hairline (what's it called?) has been receded as bad as it is in the pics for a while now, and I can tell the right side is slowly receding as well. My crown has a pretty bad bald spot that's been there for years now. I've been monitoring the front of my hairline for a while, and the middle has had a piece further down than the rest for at least a few months, but it hasn't been as distinct as it is now. To the immediate left and right my hairline seems to be going back a bit too. It really is getting worse and I'm not sure what it's going to progress to if I don't do anything about it. Can you predict my future recession?

Those pictures aren't the best but I think it's pretty obvious that your losing density which is a sure sign of hair loss. If you losing hair on your crown, that's another solid indication of male pattern baldness. At 20yrs old, and noticeable hair loss, you are going to have an uphill fight to maintain what you have into your 30s+.

Depending on your level of desperation to save your hair, the stronger the measure you will need to take.

The pattern of your hairline recession doesn't look bad, Justin Timberlake, Leonardo Dicaprio and many other guys who aren't balding have the same hairline.

What is more worrysome is your bald spot in the crown and the fact that your hair seems a bit thin.

Can you post more pictures with your hair wet or parted in the middle ?

More pictures. The spot on the crown is probably even worse when you look at it from the back. I'll probably go on finasteride, but I'm not going to do the whole minoxidil routine for the next ten years. Or maybe I will, who knows. This sucks.

I think you are making the wrong decision to start minoxidil before finasteride. minoxidil does nothing to slow the progression of male pattern baldness its all an illusion pretty much. It does not block DHT, and you do not have much hair to regrow. minoxidil is good for hair regrowth, not for stopping male pattern baldness. I would actually start finasteride and not take minoxidil and stay on that regimen forever unless you experience further loss even on finasteride then I would start minoxidil

Frankly the crown doesn't look worse than the rest of your hair. It looks like a bit of diffuse thinning all over the top, finasteride will suffice if you want to start a treatment.
