What minoxidil should I buy and how should I use it?

I'm 20 and i'm like a nw2 right now. I've started to use nizoral and wanted to get on minoxidil too because I don't think I look as good with the bald spots. I don't want to try finasteride yet because I don't want the side effects. I was just wondering on which minoxidil and I should buy and how I should use it. I heard that if you use minoxidil you'll shed but will the hair that sheds grow back? If I stop minoxidil I know that my hair will fall out again but will the hair that I have now that shed also not grow back? Really worried about losing more hair if minoxidil doesn't work out for me.

Not everyone sheds on minoxidil, I didn't. The best way to use it is twice a day in the am and pm about 12 hours apart. I have heard that once a day may be almost as effective. But I choose to use it twice a day, just in case. There are so many brands on the market I'll just mention the ones I tried. I tried rogaine foam and liquid at first. I preferred the liquid. The foam ran down my head and wasn't as easy to accurately dose. Then I tried anagen research liquid as a cheaper alternative. Which has worked just as well for me as the rogaine so far. Oh and I've been using it for a year now and I don't get any side effects.

starting min is a big decision as once you start you'll have to take it -for life-

just start finasteride instead only 2% get sides. Sounds like you are early stages so I wouldn't even think you should start min

it will also mask the progression of male pattern baldness in the absence of finasteride, which you will probably have to start at some point anyway

I have started to notice my hairline was receding when i was 16 (2012) and now i have receding hairline. However when I took a picture of my hairline 4 month ago and i have noticed these small hair all over my temple where my hairline was before so my question is are these hair going to grow back? Also, i have been using regain foam for 1 month.

in this picture if you zoom a liitle bit you can see the tiny hairs in my temple

I really don't want to end up being in the 2% that does get sides. I like my penis and everything associated with it. I don't want to end up being infertile. male pattern baldness is one of the worst things that can happen to you =(. I want my hair to last at least until I find a girl to marry me. It sucks because my dad didn't really start losing his hair until he was like 40.

I want to start minoxidil because I want the hair that I did lose to grow back. If I do start minoxidil, do I just apply it to the area where I use to have hair. I know the guy about save liquid was better but would most people agree with that?

if you fall in the 2% you'll only have a low libido or weak erections for only 2 or 3 weeks. It's not a big deal..... You cant go 2 weeks without being at top sexual performance? and even then there is only a 2% chance of that happening. Yet you claim male pattern baldness is one of the worst things that can happen to you. Newsflash: Without finasteride you probably wont have your hair until 35, or even 25. Liquid minoxidil is better, but only a third of people see regrowth with it alone if I remember correctly. Apply it to the affected area. I think you are making a dumb decision though, have fun applying it every day for the next 20 years and spending 1000$+ when you never even should have started it

Yea but there's still people who claim finasteride has had long term effects on their body. How do I get it anyway? Is it something I need a prescription from a doctor for or can I just get it from amazon? How much is the minimum I would need to take?

there have been numerous studies with thousands of people, over the last 20 years, they show over and over again there is no incidence of permanent sides higher than that of placebo. But a few people on the internet are apparently more reliable. You can get finasteride without a script at inhousepharmacy.vu (pay with echeck) or alldaychemist.com. Or you can just get a script. Dosage doesn't matter with finasteride, take anywhere between .25mg and 1.25mg daily, doesn't really make a difference

Yeah, zzzzz just answered a similar question I had. I think he's really, really defensive of taking finasteride for whatever reason. I think if people don't want to take something, as illogical or irrational as that concern might be, one should answer to their point of interest. I'm also trying to determine which brand of shampoo and min to take, but am not going to take anything internally for the foreseeable future. The chances might be 1000:1, but the side effects are off putting enough for me not to go there. Put another way, crossing the topical vs. internal threshold is huge for me. It's like with toenail fungus medication recently- I opted for topical only as the internal medicine had a *slight* chance of messing up your liver. Not a chance I was willing to take. And topical worked.

I'm not saying people shouldn't take finasteride. Hell, people ride motorcycles all the time and it's something I wouldn't do. To each his/her own. But if someone is not willing to take that risk, I think the right answer is "ok, per your requirements, here's what I'd recommend...", and not "you're wrong and will change your mind and should listen to me". Risk is a personal taste thing, just like films or food or any other preferences in life, really.

Just sayin'. You play to your audience. In this case, said audience is a person with a specific question, not someone looking to be persuaded about how or why their comfort level is wrong. finasteride does have some pretty scary side effects, however slim the chance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finasteride#Adverse_effects). You're willing to take the risk? Obviously fine, just like motorcycles. But some have a different risk profile about it is all. Now, how about some min experiences/recs? :)
