Ok I am 99.9% sure I have male pattern baldness. Approximately six months ago I got my thyroid hormones analysed and they were all at normal levels. Is there any other possible explanation I am losing my hair so young? I have noticed whenever young men come on this site and show their aggressive hairloss often forum members advice them to get their T and DHT levels checked. What is the purpose od this because if you have elliminated other possiblilities it doesn't matter if dht is high or low; its still responsible for hair loss. Basically what will I appomplish my getting ym dht levels and T levels examined? Oh and by the wayI am just going to keep bumping this post until someone has the energy to reply because this is a forum meant to help people. Thank you

What pattern is your hair loss? When did it start? If its DHT related, you will have either a bald spot, receding hairline, or diffuse thinning mostly on the top. You may also have an intense scalp itch/burn/tingle, particularly in the thinning areas but sometimes all over the head.

In addition to genetic sensitity of DHT leading to male pattern baldness, there are numerous other inflammatory responses that possibly contribute to androgenic alopecia. PKC, TGF-beta, TNF-alpha, etc. The extent of their involvement remains unknown and is still under investigation. Solving male pattern baldness is still a long way off, probably decades away. There is much that is misunderstood about the process.

If it is another type of alopecia you have, it is likely to look much different. These forms of hair loss look vastly different from male pattern baldness, usually.

Getting your DHT levels might be beneficial because that way you can take periodic blood work to see if propecia or avodart are working.

Well I'm sure if I went on Propecia my dht levels would decrease. So are you saying the only reason people get their dht levels checked before going on drugs is to see if Propecia is working?

Yes, at least I would assume thats the main reason.

You are on one of the big 3 - nizoral. So add another one...

You need to get on finasteride if your sure its male pattern baldness. You've had a blood test to make sure it not thyroid probs etc so sooner you start the better.

Sometimes worth getting your DHT,testosterone, estrogen levels checked before you go on meds and later if meds are not helping your hairloss. But its not essential unless meds are not working...if you can get the tests for free then do it.

Recommend finasteride to start as its the easiest to keep up for life. You may want to go for minoxidil later depending on your results but that is more labour intensive and more expense. You may want to keep lower dose of finasteride to start if your hairloss is very slow. Give it at least 6 months for finasteride to do its job.

Here is the map of the hairloss pathway.

DHT (most potent), Free T, and other sources -----> androgen receptors -----> release of free radical -----> TGF -----> caspase reaction -------> apotosis(death of the hair follicle or miniaturization).

As you can see DHT, FRee T and or minor source can all travel the same apototic pathway that will lead to the death of the hair follicle.

if you are using dht blocker(duta or finasteride) like most male pattern baldness people are, you still have free T and other sources to worry about. therefore, it is better to get tropical eupicil to block androgen receptors from dht, t, and others as a backup plan. if it still gets through, make sure you eat alot of antioxidant food or take pills to destroy the free radical. if that still doesn't work, your hope is to inhibit as much TGF-B(which is way applepoly tropical stray and pill is the best cuz it destroy free radical and inhibit TGF) as possible before it offsets the apototic reaction.

this pretty much covers a major portion of hairloss.

i'm convinced that delayed food allergies are to blame for most accelerated hair loss on these boards - the hairloss that is marked by itchy scalp and deteriorating scalp health in general. unfortunately most food allergies (those responsible for contributing to chronic health issues) are impossible to diagnose with a simple IgE test.

Food allergies, undiagnosed or otherwise do play a role. In fact food and nutrition are a key, fundamental, modulating factor in hair loss.

Despite this, people give NO credence to the fact that food allergies (or diet) are related to hair loss.

Eating well however just doesn't cut it, especially when "eat-well-type-diets" are full of half truths anyway which only fuel the problem, over and over again - perpetually.

Food, nutrition, diet and health in general is far more complex than anyone cares to acknowledge. Because of this many people try to make laughable changes to their diets, all be it unsuccessfully, thus they find themselves reverting back to their habitual ways, cursing the rest of the naturalists as they speedily progress to cue ball status.

People are left holding their balls wondering why the f@#k sh*t happens the way it does all the whilst shoveling sh*t down their throats.

Man kind is a real-tragedy. Combined we are a mass of ignorant idiots.

Anyway I concur with the Newguy2006 dude.

hey bro, thanks for the support. i'm just tired of reading stupid threads about the next GREAT NEW PEPPER OIL or some other dumb crap that people rub on their heads as a cure. whenever i bring up the idea of food allergies it's shot down by the masses as stupid, when in fact it's a very logical explanation (that involves little $$ for treatment besides a simple test, usually covered by insurance).
