damn, sucks to know that dudes with thyroid problems may have issues with finasteride. I have hyperthyroid, although now the illness, which according to the doctor has sort of gone into remission after eating thyroid medicine for more than a year. But if my thyroid is overactive, it should be able to break down the finasteride... right?

I'm definately thinking about getting on finasteride. However, I'm still trying to conceive and once I get over that hurdle, I will ask my doctor for a prescription.

In fact I went for a full physical yesterday and he also recommended I hold off until then. He did write me a prescription for the 2% Nizoral.

Is the generic 2% Nizoral just as good as the name brand? Also, if Proscar is just a higher concentrated dose of Propecia, is there any reason to be on Propecia?

You only need 1mg of finasteride per day for hairloss treatment.

Proscar = 5mg/pill
Propecia = 1mg/pill

So since proscar has 5mg just cut it up in fourths or fifths, its cheaper than propecia.

I'm 21 years old, I started propecia when I was 19, I have been on it 16 months now. I admit it was a big decision at the time. Maybe you should read enjoylifes link to have all the facts about it, side effects with propecia are rare but they can happen but will stop once you stop taking it. Men have been taking propecia for years (for prostate cancer at higher doses) so its not as if doctors know nothing about long term effects of the drug.

When I started to take it, my sex drive really went up for the first 6 weeks then returned to normal. I've experienced no side effects while on it, except my semen can be a little watery now and again. In my opinion you should start taking propecia (or a cheaper generic brand) to save your hair. But remember just because you've lost some hair it doesnt mean you are going to be completely bald, some guys hairloss stabilizes and they dont lose it for decades, your father, older brothers hair can be an a good indication.

Ask as many questions here before you start, it is the best hairloss site on the net.

Still on finasteride and still have most my hair. Overall decent results. Haven't grown much back but have definitely kept what I had. Have been taking a biotin supplement as well. Will probably post pics. I'm gonna place another $100 order for the finasteride.
